I've been doing close up magic off and on for 25 years now. My time in the military set me back a few years, but I now have the time to devote to my first real love.
I've never had a paying gig, but I treat the craft with the proper respect and seriousness it is due. I used to do "street" magic in the hallways of my high school between classes, and was offered a spot on the Mike McGuire show, our local cable access channel. I respectfully declined, not thinking I was ready at the time. I learned alot about handling a crowd back then. With the nearest magic club 30 miles away, and no car of my own, it was hard to find fellow magicians to talk with, and bounce my material off of. Sadly, when I returned from the military, my parents had moved, and lost most of my props and books in the process. (I still had my fingers though!) I'm a professional firefighter now, and my work schedual gives me alot of free time. I plan on getting my act together and start doing paying gigs eventually. I'm debating whether to go with close up strolling, or get together a dove act, something I know alot about, but haven't commited to yet. Anyway, this looks like a great place to be! I'll be hanging around for a long while. Cheers! |

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the nice introduction regarding your background in magic. I have you doubt you're going to enjoy your time spent at the Café. Lots of friendly people from over 80 different countries and 10,000 members. You'll never have to worry again about finding someone to chat with regarding magic. A warning however this site is addictive! It's a bit overwhelming at first - so much to read and where to start? A suggestion would be to scroll through all the forums and check which interest you the most. Perhaps one of two of your favorite and in no time you'll feel comfortable and eventually post or ask questions of your own. Welcome and good to have you here. |
