Hello, I was wondering if anyone had an alternate routine for burglar ball, or some different handling for it that makes it harder for the audience to find out the trick, when you have to switch the position of the l*d. As for my advice, I usually put it under a handkerchief and let the spectator push it in. Thanks!

Also, any way to let the spectators examine the box without them finding out the fact that the l*d can be positioned differently?

I can't imagine why a spectator would even think of putting the lid on the side of the box. Why would that occur to someone who isn't a magician?

Well, when I hand it out, sometimes the audience members think that I have a hole in the box, and then get the idea to put the lid on weird, or upside down. When I perform this trick, they also tend to be suspicious of me taking the box back from them when they are examining the ball, and want to examine the box before I hide it under the handkerchief.

All of that can be controlled through presentation and patter. Spectator management is a vital aspect of any performance.

So do you have any 'working' or good patter to put as a story behind the trick that works well? I think it would help me with my presentation of the trick, since I usually just say the ball penetrated through the box.

As Dai Vernon used to say, "Use your head."
I don't mean that in an insulting way, but just to prod you to be creative!
