I'm interested in writing a song using the poem on this cartomancy thread. It might be fun and a cool way to remember the meanings.

I would opt for slide played in open "drone" E (that's 2 unison e notes in the middle; gets rid of the major/minor straightjacket) Oh...what are you paying?

Qualified musicians get the standard fee. A writers percentage.
I think the Stormy Monday idea is good .. Nice turn around.

I wouldn't steal Stormy Monday. Much better to come up with something original.

It's an age old progression. Three chords and a cool turn around .... must be 100 songs with the same chord progression.

No. Stealing is stealing. Your statement says "it's o.k. to steal! The song only had 3 chords!"

Using the same chord progression is not stealing. Using a melody yes but not chords. After all, there are only 12 major chords and millions of songs.

I wasn't talking about stealing..

I was just referring to a slow blues progression.

Last night I played with many musicians including a guitar player using a slide.
In my head, many songs remind me of other earlier songs.

We were playing a song from the early 1900 and it reminded me of a Gordon Lightfoot.

Yes only so many notes, it is good to be original, but original may be in the hand of the beholder or historian.

Example Michael Jackson did not invent the moves that came to be known as the Moon Walk, it was done much much earlier.

Can you say ASCAP/BMI

If that's true, The Beatles stole most of their early songs Smile
I shall see you on the other side.

Like in magic, musicians are influenced by who they associate with, are mentored or jam with.
But I digress from the OP.

Part of my act is spontaneous songs with blues riffs based on audience members.

The Beatles covered many blues tunes in the beginning in the cavern.... There is no denying they came into their own and set the world ablaze!!!

I admit my mistake. I wasn't speaking as the decades-long experienced musician I am. I was speaking as someone who is tired of hearing Slim's voice, no matter the subject matter. He has a talent.

Not sure what you are getting at, but I'll be performing/singing/dancing for about 20,000 Mardi Gras fans this weekend at Universal Studios.
I've performed for about 10 million people in the last 15 years.
What's your beef?

So back to Stormy Monday...here's a rare underground glimps of the tune while I hit on the Penguin!!!!

I apologize for my beef. I have to cut down. One word: "Houdini". I had an aftertaste that traveled here. My bad.
