Hi everyone-
My name is Mike and I live in one of the Chicago, IL suburbs. Now 45, I have been a big fan of magic since I was old enough to ride my bike over to Dallas & Company magic shop in Champaign with my cousin back in the 1980's. Though always just learning and performing as a hobbyist, in the last couple years, I have began volunteering at local hospitals to perform bedside magic for sick children/young adults (3yrs - 21yrs). This has been extremely rewarding personally, but also a challenge to keep improving and expand my repertoire with solid effects. Currently do mostly cards, coins, sponge, thumb tip, but try to bring in some different magic whenever I can (and it is appropriate). It is in this research that I had the pleasure of discovering the Magic Café. This has become my "go-to" place to see what the Magic Café things about a particular magic trick (either new or just newly found by me), before purchasing and making the effort to learn. Sitting in the wings for some time, decided to jump in and try participating. Looking forward to learning from all the great magicians on this excellent forum, and hope to be able to contribute. Thanks and have a good evening. Michael |

Welcome mtrick1303,
I think Magicians who already have some experience get better use from the Café. They have experienced enough problems to frame a question. I lurked for a while too. It seems only prudent but you'll be glad you joined. I'll look for you in "Table Hoppers and Party Strollers". -Mary Mowder |

Thanks for the welcomes. Yes, I am very excited and looking forward to learning a lot and having fun in the process. I have most of the standard books (Tarbell series, Card College Series, Effortless Card Magic, Now you See it, now you don't books, Close Up card magic), but have begun moving over to DVDs in the past few years as find easier to learn visually. Really enjoy the Pop Haydn tricks on DVD, as well as those from Jeff McBride and David Roth. Guess I am a bit of a magic trick junkie as well. Great feeling, though, to find that "gem" every once in a while that works in my routines for a long time with great reactions.
