"Once the gamblers realized the cards were not shuffled, they increased their bets from $10 to $5,000 and proceeded to win 41 straight hands."
When you are that stupid... what can you expect? |

Exactly, which is why I don't think Phil Ivey cheated.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

I know that people are getting more and more dumb in our times, but frankly man...
How can you imagine the casino is not gonna suspect, detect anything? Seriously... Most of events like that don't work because people are too greedy or too stupid (sometimes, both). When a flaw like that occurs, you can be sure it won't last long before being noticed and that you have 0 chance to separate the casino from its money. At least, if you wanna try, be clever, discreet. Raise your bets from $10 to $50 or even $100. Make a few grands, cash in, try to reach the parking lot and enjoy a next nice week-end. How can you be that stupid to win 41 hands in a row??? People watch too many movies if you ask me . |

Who are the dumb guys? Players who noticed the flaw or casino staff who did not noticed it?
Players didn't feel they were cheating when they noticed the flaw, so they exploited it to the maximum. They probably do not have enough time to elaborate a more sophisticated plan. And until the judgement thay had a chance to keep their winning, some cases have been won by customer against casinos, no? Maybe they are not the smartest guys on earth, but I would not qualify them as "dumb". And I'm not an expert in New Jersey's law, but, isn't it a bad judgement for the industry? And for the Casino? Yes they won the case but don't this judgement opened a kind of Pandora box? The judge stated: "The dealer did not pre-shuffle the cards immediately prior to the commencement of play, and the cards were not pre-shuffled in accordance with any regulation," the judge wrote. "Thus, a literal reading of the regulations ... entails that the game violated the (Casino Control) Act, and consequently was not authorized." I'm wondering if it mean that any regulation violation as small as it can be will cancel the legality of the game being played, and, by the way, gamblers who lost money will be able to ask for a rebate. Is it something that can happen? Cordially. |

What I see is that they won nothing. I see an another long story about laws, justice and regulations coming. Sorry, but it was enough for me with Phil Ivey last time. Laws are made by and for the one with money. But if people think they can beat that, no problem with me.
I myself noticed some flaws in the past in some "fields". I don't consider myself more clever than anyone else, but I took a small advantage out of it, and everything went OK. That's the way I do. Everyone has his own method. But again, you really need to be stupid to raise from $10 to 5 grand, winning an enormous pile of cash thru 41 wins in a row and believing the casino's owners are gonna use a red carpet for you. Furthermore when the flaw is so obvious! This is just my considered opinion. |
