Thanks for that link to Minch's THE HERMETIC PRESS “STYLEBOOK”.

I haven't read it all, but already I have found one of my pet peeves - the use of the word *pinky* when referring to the hand's diminutive digit.

But, alas, Mr. Minch needs to review the proper use of quotation marks.

Yes, it's interesting that Minch opts for British usage in this instance, and for the serial "and." I much prefer the American way for these two issues.

But, K, I like "pinky," "ring finger," "middle finger," and "index finger." It's clear, at least. Whenever I see "fourth finger," I have to count...and I don't know from which end to start...

See, there's that whole thumb ambiguity as well. Is it finger number one, or just the thumb? I'm pretty sure I've seen numberings that assume the first finger is the index finger. Giobbi uses "little finger" for the "pinky" which I think is probably the best answer.
