What Bro Gilbert describes sounds interesting (I can come up with a very good reason for doing this so it would potentially fit me) and way better than what the trailer shows. Any chance we can see a performance of this with the sticks being shown individually?

Sticks being shown individually? I some how don't reckon on that being possible, then again just a speculation.

From what Bro just said ( you really break the wooden sticks (gimmick) each time, spectators feel something happen in their hand and they are then left with the impossible ) Sold me. I was going to ask if you hear them break. Looks good.

You do really break a gimmick each time, a real snap they can see and hear. As far as the spectator feeling something happening in their hand. To be clear nothing really physically moves in their hand I am using a clever bit of psychology which consists of a few simple words and some naturally occurring environmental elements. Something I use in almost all of my close up work to strengthen any close up effect. It is simple and taught thoroughly in the instructions.

I just got back from LA for a weekend and Bro and I went out on the town and performed wishbone all night, it is a really different effect and every time people reacted surprisingly shocked!
It is one of those effects where the spectator tricks themselves from the start... Funny thing is even if someone suspects the method the handling dismisses that in their own mind, it's amazing watching people trying to solve this impossible puzzle of magic. Congrats Bro! Now I need refills!!! LOL AG
Well then...

Considering the need to buy refills, it seems like this one should be a bit cheaper in cost.
Just my opinion. |

Watching the vidio there seems to be a jump in camerea shot of them being held seperately then being held both together.
so yes the question asked . Any chance we can see a performance of this with the sticks being shown individually? |

This looks really great with more clarification on the effect that what the trailer shows.

Fire Starter, you begin with two separate sticks, cross them, show everything clean front and back, have them signed and do the effect, no fancy editing, it is very straightforward and easy

I like the idea but the way it is executed seems a bit lacking, IMO. Two spectators make a wish, sign the sticks and then the sticks become one, become a wishbone. What do you do with a wishbone? You break it and make a wish. Well they have already both made their wish and no one is likely going to want to break the wooden wishbone that magically formed in their hand. So it feels to me like they are left hanging. What about their wish? What about breaking the wishbone?
I think the patter need work, probably a total rewrite. I think it is a great phase (phase 3 I think) but to be a great effect it is missing two more phases. Phase 1 could be using the paddle move to make the names on the sticks disappear and jump around in a clever way. And phase 2 should be breaking and restoring the sticks (Gregory Wilson did some nice work in that area). By using a clever tip that Jay Sankey does with coins one could get the spectators to sign two sticks, thinking the first one had been wipped off. Then they could break the signed sticks and you could restore them. Then fuse the sticks using Wishbone as phase 3. That is the difference between doing magic and creating a single moment of "what just happened there".

I personally would not use paddle moves with this.
There is indeed a difference between doing Magic tricks and creating a single moment…of wonder. I might choose the single moment for this piece. It does seem to be something you would want or need to over-routine. |

I believe the spectators expressed the it perfectly, what just happened. To put it another way, why did this happen. No logical reason to weld them into a V. So people are left puzzled. Not a very magical or strong trick, in my opinion. I don't care for refill tricks that are not easily obtained, any way.

To clarify for some. As magicians I like the idea that we can seemingly create magic with anything around us and where ever we are, using coffee sticks fits perfectly into this category because many of us our out in the world at coffee shops etc. daily, and pulling out a deck of cards or sponge balls is not as seemingly improvised as just picking up what is around us in our environments. But to be clear in case the trailer does not romance this enough...this is an effect about two people / lovers / friends etc. coming together. Much like the anniversary waltz card effect or twilight angels. Initials are signed on two different sticks and through magic they are somehow joined together forever. I have yet to experience someone who did not understand what the effect was at the end and the reactions have always been very strong for me. I was hoping the subtext would speak loud enough on the trailer for people to run their own approach with it... but for those looking for exact patter you might say...."Here are two sticks...this one represents you Susan...This one represents you Tom....two separate beings in the universe....but somehow you came together..crossed paths (make x)...sign your stick Tom...Susan make an initial on yours as well....(break sticks) I want to try an experiment with your signatures.... (put the pieces in their hands)....let's see how strong your love is etc.....you might feel this....look ....even though you guys were apart you've come together forever.......that's a good sign"....As far a paddle moves and multiple phases etc. I would be open to seeing someones approach to this of course, but for my own performances I prefer a the very simple straightforward presentation that you see in the trailer. Hope this clears up a few questions and concerns that have been mentioned.

Hi All. this "together forever" initials idea works for many different situations. You can have just one spectator..and have her write her initials on one stick..and the initials of a close friend...lover...pet etc on the other stick. Or if the performer is in "making new friends" mode...he can initial one of the sticks...spec initials the other stick..and go from there. Or if you prefer..just bring out the sticks..say "want to see something weird"...and that's all the presentation/motivation you need to create an unforgettable moment of strange.

Hello all,
I'm pretty impressed by the nice and very informative response from Bro Gilbert! I was personnaly not impressed with the trick, but I do believe you can make a very nice magical/special moment! The only downside would be the refill, but I must admit that I don't do any trick very often, just to family (mainly) and sometimes friends also. It looks like a winner, and I have the feeling the trailer doesn't give the proper value to the trick. But I may be mistaking. best, merlin |

I like Bro's "Coming Together" patter expressed in his last post much better than the trailers "Make a Wish" patter.
