The Roach paddle trick mentioned several times is being marketed as Shock Roach.
No one seems to have named any of the hot rod tricks with a price range of $2 to $30 or a drawer vanish box. Lots of rubber band tricks besides CMH. Some great DVDs and downloads available with many tricks. Dollar bill transpositions and several coin gaffs that are inexpensive, wand thru coin, karate coin, and bended coin and you can make these yourself. |

If I would have to choose, it would be cups and balls. C&B is also one of the first routines that I learned, and is still my absolute favorite to perform or just to practice. It's wonderful how many people are still amazed by such a simple set of props and the right amount of misdirection.
The best part, for just a couple dollars, they make a great gift for a kid who is interested in learning. |

Svenpads (official) are some of the best tools in magic for a steal of a price for their versatility. AS far as routines that are cheap and super fun and killer, look at Stand Up Monte. I use it in every strolling show and have for years since its release. Great routine. You could also buy a cheap strolling chop cup for around that range and that is a wonderful trick. Take a look at the don allen cups on the used market.

So while this thread has concentrated mostly on pocket and close up tricks, I'd like to move to some stage or club magic. I started a thread here https://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/view......c=680770 but I don't see why we can't just continue it here? Thank you Julie Smile
Anyway, my first choice beats out almost any other trick know other than a TT for it's price of $.50us and it's called Anti Gravity Bottle cap. Copying from the other thread, so good is this trick that one street performer made his living, with mostly this trick and it cost about $.50us. His name was Mel and he worked the intermissions of Broadway shows. His signature trick was "Water Stop" and it used this gimmick. Not bad for the price, don't you think? Other things to consider for stage or club might be Cut and Restored rope or Torn and Restored News Paper. I like the Gene Anderson version. $3us when I bought it in the 70s. Mentioned earlier in this thread but overlooked by most was the Wrong Way Arrow. I actually used a large version of this on stage to prove to my audience, that they were all hypnotized. Grandma's Necklace was also mentioned but Ropes Through the Body was not and works by the same principal. A more recent item is Silk through Cell Phone which would be great after Swipe, which was posted in this thread. The idea is we don't have to spend a fortune to do magic that blows them away regardless, of where or how we perform. I wish I had known that when I started in this business. I probably could have bought the Yacht, I always wanted? LOL
No matter how many times you say the wrong thing, it will NEVER be right.
If I'm not responding to you? It's because you're a TROLL! |

It's not a trick in and of itself, but Harry Robson's Roughing Stick is probably what I've gotten the most out of for the price. It is cheap, lasts a very long time, and allows for a huge range of effects with the R&S principle (whether it be used for fully gimmicked decks like an ID or for packet tricks).
