It shouldn't really be necessary unless you have a unique routine that would require it.
After all, misdirection alone is typically more than enough to get 2 balls (one after the other) under the cup. However, it's nice being able to squeeze a leather cup gently to get the same result, or even use a pinky finger to get the same result.
