I was not sure where to post this but I'm a close up worker and need some advise. I am practicing card flourishes and want to know people's opinions on their use in magic. I'm in the middle of the road and need your help.

Depends on your style, what are you trying to show? It is commonly mixed together and can be very effective.

Some of the old timers would say "Don't do fancy fans, etc. It detracts from the magic. I think that it's a matter of personal taste, and "how" you work.
In my stand up, I usually only do the fancy shuffles and a few flourishes. Audiences like it. Occasionally, I might do Ten Cards Across, or a comedy card in balloon that involves the George McAthy INSURANCE POLICY. For walk arounds, I just do the fancy shuffle routine. I enjoy watching a good card man like Jon Racherbaumer, but there aren't very many of them.

I get the impression that magicians are more impressed with flourishes than the audience. We can apreciate how hard some of it is - while they just think you are hiding a move under the flourish. I try not to do anything to flashy to avoid suspicion... but I could be wrong...

Dribble Spring that's the extent of my flourishing. Anymore then that and I'll be picking up cards off the ground. |

I have the same opinion like Tukaram. I prefer to do as many moves as possible, because audience think you are doing something sneaky beaky like.
