From consumer point of view you have nailed it.
Most of us poor saps pay the VAT and don't even think about it. Plenty of business gets done off the books in order to avoid paying it; building work, for example, or so I'm told. Ahem. In other words, the customer pays in cash, dodges the 20% VAT, and the small business keeps it off the books and avoids several other taxes. You'll notice that most retailers don't even mention VAT, unless they sell largely to businesses or VAT registered sole traders. |

The biggest rip-off of course is being taxed on savings.
Given that I've earned the money once AND paid tax on it already, HOW is there any logical reasoning to tax savings? E.g. I earn £100, pay (for example) £30 tax, and save the remaining £70. Then I'm subsequently taxed on that as well. Utter madness. Think I'll just have to become overly righteous, and move to The Isle of Man. They all seem to be on a nice little earner; no doubt with their infrastructure being propped up by the rest of the UK.

Man! The money-grubbing SCUM robbing you of your money...burns me to the CORE! VAT is a way they do it. Bravo to those who defy that system and go underground! Any time I can avoid paying TAX, I DO. I don't care what it is.

Propped up Michael in that UK residents move there to pay less tax to the UK Govt.; or set up dodgy little bank accounts so that their money is effectively transferred overseas - look no further than a certain Nigel Farage.
Or are you going to tell me that your little rock would be completely self-sufficient otherwise, its population of around 85,000 people, unless it was bending rules? You live in a place as corrupt as anywhere on this planet mate. And you have the audacity to say that what I suggested was 'fraudulent practice'! Sheer hypocrisy fella.

On international comparisons of money-laundering/corruption, the Isle of Man is rated Medium-Low risk (it ranks 61 out of 219 countries).

You quote that as if it's actually a position to be proud of.
61 out of 219 - so in other words, as close to the upper quartile of the World's financial corruptness that it really makes very little difference. You and your fellow Manx must be so highly delighted to be such bastions of financial honesty and integrity; not to mention, laughing all the way to the bank.

Lower quartile Barry. Rank 1 is least corrupt. Rank 219 is most corrupt.

Don't be too upset Mike.
I'm quite sure that with another term of Cameron and Osborne, you'll soon lose the 'low' tag from the Medium, and begin to rise rapidly through the ranks.

Question for Double Cross:
Can the gimmicked sharpie be used in other routines for spectators signing cards for example? |
