I don't think we covered this topic yet, sometimes I wonder how these songs made the charts at all.
Here are some I can think of off hand: Just a Friend Biz Markie Cotton Eye Joe Rednex Macarena Los Del Rehio (?) History of Rock and Roll Pt.2 Gary Glitter Ice,Ice Baby Vanilla Ice Mmm, Bop Hanson Yellow Polka Dot Bikini Purple People Eater Short Shorts I like this song but it is just plain strange: Chick A Boom Big Daddy Dew Drop (anyone remember this one?)

I can't believe that "Blue" song was so popular (By Eifell 65....I think).
That was such an annoying song! Does anyone remember it? It's the one that sounded very electronic-y and they kept "singing," "I'm Blue Dabba Dee Boo Bap bee doo." Or soemthing like that. Great topic! |

So much pop music is disposable. Tends to have a nice hook and beat though gets worn out quickly.
Worse are the quick adapters of really good new things who popularize something. Think of the percussion track behind the Madonna song 'Justify My Love'... can you place the work she lifted it from? Once you get an ear for 'borrowings' you might find several hits of their day are sweetened and simplified versions of much more interesting works.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

"Hey Ya" by Outkast. If you listen to the lyrics and the singer it really is crap. But the tune is pretty catchy.

I personally cannot stand "Polk Salad Annie" - both the song and the food!
