Hey Everybody,

Recently my wife and I have committed ourselves to serving the Lord exclusivly with magic and drama which are the two things we enjoy most in life (other than our children of course). I have been working on a website to allow churches and groups to know more about us. I am a rank amateur at building websites but the Lord has been kind and is helping me through this and I am learning.

Please, if you have time would you be so kind as to look at this site and give me feedback as to things that might need to be changed or improved. Feel free to PM me with suggestions or just post them here.

http://www.sambreezy.com is the site.

Thank you
In His Service

As one who has been involved in computers since 1967, and the Internet since 1994—yes, it has been around that long—I can say that a website is a very personal thing. While there are some basic "rules" that apply to the design and layout, what you have to say is all up to you. And the organization and navigation is also up to you. (Although that last part must be easily understood and almost intuitive to the web user if you want it to be effective.)

I could easily comment about some of the rules of design, but you have to use those tools that you know how to use, and not everyone is a graphic artist with those skills and tools (neither am I), so for the most part my comments would not be useful in that area.

The only comments I will make are simple: Consistency throughout a website is most effective. If the look is going to change from page to page, there should be a reason for that. My only other comment is that a website is not a book. A book is printed once and, except for notes in the margins, is set that way forever. It is static. A website is a dynamic, changing document. It MUST change to be effective, otherwise once someone has seen it, why would they come back?

That is where most folks fail in their web sites, they think the major effort is just to create it and then they are done. But that is just the start. The ongoing change and maintenance is the really hard part. Keeping the content "fresh" and interesting is the real challenge.

Your site is a good first step. Now prayerfully consider (I am sure that you already have) whether or not this site presents your message. Then keep it fresh and moving along according to its purpose.

God bless and keep up your efforts with God's work!

Thank you BroDavid for you comments and suggestions. I have taken them to heart and made some changes to the site. As I said, it is a work in progress so it will be changed at least, oh shall I say, 1000 times per day. I agree with you, websites do need to change in order to keep people interested and coming back.

Thanks again

God bless you in your efforts of starting a new ministry and in setting up the website. These things take time and a lot of effort. Sounds as though you already have your feet wet on the ministry aspect of the two.

I have very little experience in webpage design, so I don't know how much help I can be there. I have, however, visited literally thousands of websites and have some ideas in that area, and I worked in a branch of advertising for about three years, so I have suggestions there also.

Overall your site seems to be off to a good start. You haven't cluttered it up with "stuff" just to fill empty space. It is simple and direct, always a good approach.

I am going to have to go, so I'll work on some ideas and PM you later.

Godspeed

More photos??? I didn't see any photos, did I miss something?

I think it is a good start but it does seem almost too serious and could possibly use a little balancing out with the use of photos or a little more pizzazz.

God bless your efforts on your step of faith!

OK...Illusion4Life...Nice start.

But...Get ready. When Harry Lorrayne says virtually "forget the classic pass" and use an updated version you need to take notice.

Take notice on Web Design Laws...

When you want your viewers to actually read more than three lines ALWAYS set your text in newspaper column style. Always! Half a screen width is ample. Humans read "differently" on the internet.

Why?

Because we are looking into a LIGHT GLOBE! 95% of world internet users have as their screen "Cathode Ray Tube" as in "The Tube"...as in a fancy light globe! Human eyeballs "strain" in reading internet text. Four times as much light entering eye at a third of the "normal" reading resolution. Physical newspaper text is over 300 DOTS PER INCH resolution. Internet text for technical reasons is at this stage just 72 DPI (that's why this text is blurry too!). That's why The Magic Café size of text is so large. One of only 2% of the world internet sites that uses this size...the rest use smaller text. Check it all out!

Two years part-time in the making, I have designed an e-learning site that has heaps
of tutorials on a specialised subject: http://www.kmdynamics.com/tutorials/knowledge.html

I need to keep my viewers FOCUSED on quite complex messages...a feat of magic in itself! See what you think.

Bottom line: Formatting text on internet is critical.

I have more suggestions but think about this one for next time.

But a good start...Keep learning.

Sorry it took so long to get back. Here are a couple of links on color usage:

http://www.infoplease.com/spot/colors1.html
http://www.ippaper.com/designers_color.html

I wouldn't worry about going too deep in the psychology of advertising because it can become overwhelming real fast. However, some good basics are given in the sites above.

Also, a good logo can be one of your best selling points. The best logos almost always incorporate things that are you and your show. Remember, don't make it crowded, again, simple is usually best.

On the whole, although you don't want clutter just to fill the space, a few good pictures placed strategically around the site to highlight what you do would be good. Seems the way most "big time sites" place their pictures is (almost) random, left right middle, etc. and at random intervals.

Remember, first impressions are important, so use the best pictures you've got.

I thought it was pretty good for a first web site. I too am interested in doing something like this and am going to check out those sites listed above as well.

Good job!

Strange, I went to check out the website at work and the IS internet filters stopped me from viewing it as it is an "adult rated" site. Strange I'll have to contact IS and see what is up with that!
