Good, as I am tired of the red cup, which is probably green on the outside.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

But is it half full, or half empty?

As recent posts have mentioned YouTube, I'd like to add another thing I'm tired of: being badgered to subscribe every time I watch a video. In fact, when someone says something like "Don't forget to subscribe," it's a sure bet I won't. Drives me up a wall.

I'm tired of all this left/right divisiveness on certain other threads.

There's a number of things that drive me nuts.
Why do two friends kissing always say "OOMWAH" Why do the english add an 'R' to any word that ends with an 'A' ? Why do they also change a 'W' to an 'R' such as in 'drawing' becoming 'Droring' etc. ? And why can't they pronounce an 'H' in a word. i.e. 'Hand' is pronounced 'And' . Even the 'educated' prime minister talks like this. Is it language evolutuon or just plain laziness, or bad education ? Bobby Thomson. |

I probably shouldn't, but what the heck?
I'm tired of poop. The older I get it seems my life revolves more and more around poop. Cat poop, dog poop, my poop. Have I pooped? When did I poop last? Do I have to poop or is it just gas? No, I just pooped and am planning my high fiber meals for when I need to poop again in the future. But wait, I ate too much cheese and protein this weekend and am going to be constipated for the first couple days of the week! I'll be pining for poop. The years are fast approaching when I'll be sipping Ensures and wearing a diaper, reminiscing about the good old days of regularity. I have to go out back now and pick up my dog's poop. All this really gets me pooped out.

The reason it takes place in the word "drawing" is to replace a glottal stop with another connector. In time, the /r/ gets inserted into the words even without the need to connect, so "drawing" becomes something like "drawr". And it doesn't just happen in British English, but in American English as well. JFK did it, for example. My own father talks about what's going on in "Warshington" these days--and he's a 78-year-old, high-school educated TEXAN, for goodness' sake. So no, it doesn't have anything to do with education or the deterioration of the English language. It has to do with the concept of DIALECT. Look it up. Here's a good start: http://aschmann.net/AmEng/ In almost exactly one hour I will begin teaching this stuff. The semester is beginning! Kiss to all the Café members! "Moomwah!" |
