The exact opposite of the other thread. How original of me.

Texting and Facebook are at the top of my list.

Well when I was a kid all we had was gas lighting, a cooker and running water. Luxury!
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

The Magic Café (gasp!)
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.--Yeats

I find the last two responses interesting as they are totally voluntary.

So are texting and Face Book, the two items you picked in the OP.

Just about any modern convenience is voluntary if you think about it. I don't HAVE to own a car, fly on airplanes, use a computer, watch television or eat at Burger King.

The Apple iPad.

I still don't get it. One of the most annoying, crippled pieces of technology ever. I'm very happy with my laptop, thank you.

Television.

Unfortunately a fellow writer got me hooked on a few series, but up to then I could go weeks without switching the bloody thing on. It is a distraction from reading time. And cooking time.

It's a bit like

A: "I hate smoking?"

B: "Then quit"

A: "Dumbass"

LOL! I haven't even seen one of those in almost twenty years. Didn't they pretty much disappear when cell phones became readily available?

Does not compute. Smile What does the fact that you don't use them have to do with them being voluntary activities?

Oh, wait... now I get it. Okay, here's something I can live without- the telegraph. And teletype.

That's an interesting one, Ian. I almost always set my alarm clock when I need to be somewhere but I also almost always wake up before it goes off. I wonder if we really need them if we would just trust ourselves to wake up when we needed to.

Then again, it could just be you have an iphone with an alarm.

Ok they don't like them and can live without them yet they voluntarily use them. I do not use the things I mentioned.
