Probably not the place for such a question but I wasn't quite sure where to place it. Anyway, I'm having some difficulty with my next DVD/Video Selection. I'm caught between Doc Eason's Set, David Regal, Jonny Thompson and am not sure which one will give me the most mileage.
So I'm asking my fellow friends here for some input. I realize that some contains a variance of Cards and Coin. The type does not concern me, It's the most for my money that does. Thanks to all who assist. |

I have not seen the Regal dvds nor the Eason set. But If I had to choose I would pick both the Johnny Thompson ones as I have seen those I have heard nothing but good things about Eason so those two with out question would be My choise.

The Eason set but the effects on there are geared specifically for bars.

I like the Eason's set.

Many of the effects on the Regal DVDs, while amazing, rely on some gaffs that you may not have. Keep that in mind. The effects are great.

Hello Smokey43,
I own both the Eason and the the Regal sets. they are both GREAT!! HARD decision. I would go with the Doc Eason Set. I perform in restaurants regularly, and have learned alot from this series. It is an experience to watch him perform his card under glass. The audience management / psychology is worth it's weight in gold. Many different routines. You will not be sorry.. Then I would get The Regal series. Note that there are 2 series of Regal tapes. The earlier set ( The Magic of David Regal, Tricks, More Tricks, Enough of the Tricks Already) I liked very much. and his latest DVD set ( Premise Power and Participation) Both excellent IMO David Paul
Guilt will betray you before technique betrays you!

Brian Morgan (or anyone):
What do you mean exactly by "geared specifically for bars"? I'm in the same dilema, deciding, and this comment made me stop for a moment. Thanks! |

The Eason set has some really nice effects on it. It got me started.

I would also recommend Doc Eason's set. The videos are extremely entertaining, as well as informative.
And, I don't think the material is just for bars. This stuff can be performed anywhere!

In my opinion, I believe that a beginner, regarless of familiarity with cards, should start out with the best of the best first. That way you will learn the best techniques, the most deceptive handlings, and the amazing moves that even as a beginner, will fool seasoned magicians. Personally, I recommend Lennart Green's Green Magic set. Volumes 1, 4, 5, and 6 are the very best of the best in my opinion

I think Eason and Regal are both outstanding. They have different styles. Eason's materials can be used in many close up situations. You might want to consider purchasing the initial volume from each set.

I just found out that Michael Rubinstein has released Encyclopedia Of Coin Sleights on DVD...now there is a must have, if coins are your thing...the perfect compliment to Ammar and Roth's (Tapes/DVD's) on the subject...unique perspective, and invaluable material...so if your old Videonics tapes are wearing out...L & L has 'em!
Don't know if it's been brought up or not ("search" said very little), but that series should be reviewed if any of you have it. I only have one of the volumes (how many WERE there?), but it's one of my most valued video treasures! Doug |
