I welcome comparisons. Each performer has different needs and skill sets and other methods may suit them better. MPT is my answer to what has suited me after studying all the others.
I am glad you find it well put together Allen. And yes that version of Leipzig's by David Ben is wonderful. Thanks for sharing that. |

Looks nice, but seeing the hand go out of frame makes me say Hey seniors I will wait on a review (said in a Mexican accent).

Well. If I think about it more you are getting a full stage routine with it. I don't know. Scott's material is always a lot of fun.

This is just lucicrous.
You're paying for his patter, that's it. The trick is older than some hills, and considerably more accessible tthan others. Do you want to copy some bloke's script? Go ahead. Good luck on the cruises. |

Have to agree. I just want to pay for a trick not the whole bloody act.

I have this, and I must say, it was completely worth the price. It's not about copying the script, it's not about whether it has been done before.
If you do the paper tear and you have the perfect routine, then don't even bother with this thread. However, if you don't have the perfect paper tear routine, and would like to, you might want to check this out. As a result of this DVD, I have completely changed my own paper tear routine handling and my patter. I don't use his patter, but his patter inspired me to remember a real life experience I had on a vacation to a Spanish speaking Island many years ago. I have told the story many times, not as part of a magic routine, and it is a hilarious story. It just occurred to me that this story, with a little twist, is the perfect patter for a torn and restored paper routine. Also, I am using his handling and his gimmicks over my old method. Now, was that worth the price for me? You betcha! If you think it's too expensive, you're right. If you think it's too cheap, you're right. If you think it will work for you, you're right. If you think it won't, you're right. See that!? No matter what, you're right. Bask in your "rightness". KJ |

$65.00 is nothing to pay for a good script.
Here is one for free! 'Watch me tear the paper in half' 'Now in quarters...a little blow and it's back together again!

We are always being encouraged by the top working pros, to create our own patter our own material. Scott is brilliant there is no doubt. But why would you want to copy him. Perhaps get some ideas and concepts from him yes.

I just received it. The "script" contains some funny jokes, but what you are paying for is really the handling and a gimmick or two. Scott's handling is very clean and easy to do. I always used Undivided by Martin Lewis, which is terrific, but it did have some angle issues. What I like about Scott's handling in Mexican Paper Tear is that there are no angle issues and you can cleanly show both sides of your hands clean and empty both prior to and after the restoration which you cannot do with Undivided. I am glad I purchased Scott's handling and certainly recommend it.

It's just once sentence, but it's pretty funny and fits my style. I don't present any of his, or anyone else's effects using any of the provided scripts, but that's just because they don't fit my personality. I can understand how a fully polished routine would be valuable to someone who has no desire to sit down and write or develop their own persona, and I guess that's ok too. It's the same thing for me with the MPT. I knew going in that I would have no interest in replicating the patter that was going to be provided here, but to see Scott's handling and have him explain and walk me through his method were exactly what I was paying for. As far as the cost being too high, here's how I look at that. Personally, there are a ton of things that I avoid performing because they are priced too low and are too easily accessible by people with only a passing interest in magic or the low budget performers in my area. Not being afraid to invest in your act is what's going to be one of the things that set you apart from the other performers. I'm just fine with most people believing that 75.00 is too much for this since it means less people doing what I'm doing. This is kind of a bad example because 75.00 really isn't a ton of money in the grand scheme of things, but think more like paying around 300.00 to perform Shattered or 800.00 or whatever it is now to perform Velocity. Sure, a lot of Scott's items are priced pretty high, but I think he does this not only to make some money for his time (and because he's giving people permission to do some of the coolest stuff in his act), but also because he wants to keep it primarily in the hands of the pros, and not the average hobbyist with just a passing interest. I could be wrong about this, but that's just my guess.

It is nice to hear that some folks really get what I am trying to do with the things I release. Of course you shouldn't do my whole script. But if you can get one idea or one nugget or one move, or tidbit that you will use for the rest of your career, then 65 bucks is a bargain.

An unfashionable view, perhaps, but they do say that youth is wasted on the young. Nothing wrong with investing in Scott's professional expertise. But the paper tear itself doesn't blow me away: I guess that's not really the selling point. |

Of course no one should outright copy anyone exactly..it won't work. Routine and presentation aside, I do think this approach to the load and ditch was worth putting out there as an alternative option some might not have considered.

Quick question can any type of paper be used for this effect? Or is cigarette paper the only paper that can be used? Thanks

I don't know how well it would handle, but it could be done. I was considering removing all the paper from the holder and bringing it out as just a stack of cut papers. This would eliminate the weird element of carrying around rolling papers, which in no way fits my style or personality. Good luck!
