Oh Tenyo Guru, Sensei, Roshi,
So, we're just a few months before the big reveal. Us mere mortals waiting a lifetime for this. How about a small sip from the fountain? After years of homework, half million written words, creator interviews, etc etc etc; How about a few Richard Kaufman,,,,,, TOP 10's? Top 10 favorite to perform one on one? Top 10 to favorite perform surrounded? Top 10 over rated by us collectors? Top 10 under rated by collectors? Top 10 still average priced pieces destined to become collectibles? Top 10 collectible, destined to be forgotten? Top 10 to put in a drawer and leave there? Top 10 most difficult to perform? Top 10 most difficult to perform,,,, but worth learning? Anyone want to add a creative list, please feel free. What do you think Richard Kaufman Sama? You game? Doumo arigatou gozaimasu Ed |

Ed, I am so busy putting the final touches on the book (and finishing up the May issue of Genii) that there's just too little time in the day. Kondo and Shimomura are about to dump hundreds of corrections on me that all have to be done during the month of April! Yikes!
Your questions would have been easier to answer a year ago when prices were much higher and it was easier to see what Tenyo tricks people were willing to pay a lot of money for. Now it's more difficult to figure that out. Sorry to say, I'm also not a fan of "Top 10" lists of anything, which is why you never see that stuff in Genii. I can tell you my favorite Tenyo trick that needs to be done one-on-one: "Mini-Zag." I can tell you the trick that seems most under-rated to me: "Golden Fleece," and you'll see why when you read the book. It's a real miracle. And one trick I'd put in a drawer and leave there is "China Surprise." Back to work! |

MIni Zag is really a great trick. I regret having to sell this one and though I have the opportunity to buy some of them again in the future, it will be part of them because as Richard say this one is just perfect for a one to one miracle. The fact of knowing the secret puts the magician in a situation where he can no longer think like the viewer, because he know how it work and I think it's for that this trick is a little bit underestimated. If you have it in your collection and not pay lot of attention in this one, try to perform Mini Zag more often and every time someone asks you to do a Tenyo trick and you'll appreciate its full potential again.

Ref; Mini-Zag
Hmmm, OK I will have to pull this one out with a whole new level of respect. When I do, I will report back, so stay tuned. Now, where did I put that thing? |

It's in your drawer next to the mirror.

Richard, I agree. Golden Fleece fried me when I performed it for myself! When one stops to think about what is actually happening (in effect...not prop mechanics)...it's quite off-putting. Nature does not allow for such things.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Most Golden Fleece props no longer work properly because of the aging of the plastic. Fixing this problem is explained in detail in Tenyoism, and the official Tenyo demonstration video of the effect will appear on one of the DVDs.

I can't even wait for the book. I feel like my head could explode at any moment.

Richard, Is my Golden Fleece with my Mini Zag?

I would start by looking in the drawer and seeing if there's a reflection of a Golden Fleece in a mirror.
Ed, don't you have everything hanging on the wall, or am I thinking of someone else? Newman: if you don't pay me the rest of the dough you won't be reading the book! ![]() |

R,
Yup, I'm the guy with all on the wall. It's just that Golden Fleece hasn't earned the right to be there yet. But, with your recommendation it just might get a coveted spot. That is after I figure out which box it's in. E |
