Hello, I am planning a program with some bolt&nut-effects, but I lack a litte bit of inspiration about where I got them and why they are able to do the things they do :-(
The only ideas I came up with so far are from very fictional stories, i.e. - remains from Frankenstein's lab - out of Geppetto's workshop (the man who built Pinocchio) - out of George's workshop (the man who built the time-machine in the movie) But somehow even to me these seem to be a little bit too "unbelievable", therefore I would like to go with a more "realistic" approach, maybe towards the pseudo-scientific area...? Or, as some of the bolt&nuts are made of brass a steampunk-related approach? So, if someone could point me in the right direction and recommend a book, or a movie, or... that would be very much appreciated. Thank you for reading and any help you want to give.
To infinity, and beyond!

Nikola Tesla?
After all, he did invent a "death ray" in 1930 according some (rather dubious) sources. |

Do you have a deceased relative who was a mechanic? Or possibly a motorcycle enthusiast? These items may have special G useful for making a connection to the spirit of said relative.

What I mean is that you may be able to construct a more recent and believable back story than movie monsters. Maybe they are an artifact from a crashed bomber in which your relative flew in WWII or from his/her work shop where he/she whiled away his/her life, alone, in an attempt to construct a mysterious soul preserving machine.

Heck - If you got them in Roswell then you could be using alien energy for the effect, it would be different and interesting. These bolts could be from vehicles or machinery used to transport the remains of aliens or their space ship to the lab at area 51 - the bolts are still infused with a mysterious energy.

"Have you ever walked along train tracks? There are all sorts of nuts, bolts, brackets, and unidentifiable metal bits scattered along the lines. Have you ever found anything? What was it? Have you have heard about the rails-to-trails trend, where the right-of-ways of old, abandoned lines are turned into recreational trails? Well, I found these along the tracks on the New York Central system when I was working on one of these rails-to-trail projects on the old main line between New York and Albany..."
