From Twitter:
Walter Scott was stopped for having "a" broken tail lamp. S.C. Code 56-5-4730 requires only one working tail lamp. http://law.justia.com/codes/south-caroli......6-5-4730

Not sure I see that in the cite.

Not sure I see that in the cite.

It says: "Any motor vehicle may be equipped, and when required under this chapter shall be equipped, with the following signal lamps and devices:

(1) A stop lamp on the rear which shall emit a red or yellow light and which shall be actuated upon application of the service (foot) brake and which may but need not be incorporated with a tail lamp; and

(2) A lamp or lamps or mechanical signal device capable of clearly indicating any intention to turn either to the right or to the left and which shall be visible both from the front and rear."

So "lamp", singular, in both sections.

My reading of (2) is that you must be able to signal right and left with either one or two lamps. If one of the lamps was out, I suspect he could only signal in one direction.

But of course all that is trivial. The point remains: a murder.

...only because it was caught on 'video'.

I agree that it is trivial in the scope of this event, but since you brought it up, I read the regulation and thought it was possible to read it as a single lamp being required as the Twitter comment you quoted indicated.

And without the video, those who defended the Ferguson shooting would be defending this one too.

I have to be honest -- I have heard the "broken tail light" reason for DWB stops a little too often. I am increasingly skeptical about those.

Oh they'll be defending this one too. After all, he was behind in his child support payments.

The video seems to show to cop planting his taser near the victim's body. I wonder if he had time to go to the victim's car and break out a tail light?

So, by the sentiments expressed in here, one bad white cop (no mistake about it, this seems to be a bad white cop) makes all white cops bad?
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about? Smile

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums.

One bad cop surely adds to the air of distrust and makes it harder on the cops who play by the rules to do their jobs.

Why the good apples defend the bad apples is a mystery. Yes. Nudge nudge. Snap snap. Grin grin, wink wink, say no more.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Also from the link above:

"Slager wasn't the only officer charged in South Carolina on Tuesday. Justin Gregory Craven, an officer in North Augusta, was arrested and charged in the death of Ernest Satterwhite, whom Craven shot repeatedly after a car chase that ended in Satterwhite's driveway [in 2014]. That shooting, too, was caught on video."

Of course, this couldn't be because the vehicles had more violations or that the drivers broke more traffic laws.

Nah, has to be racial!
