Thought It was time to make it official!
So... I was into magic as a kid, had a bunch of Paul Daniels tricks which I rediscovered in my Parents loft (25 years later) and Hey Presto, I was back in the fold! Only this time with way more money to spend/waste! That was about 5 years ago, all that time I've been dipping into the Café (as a non-member) looking for opinions and advice on tricks and performance. So this, I guess, is the natural progression, to join, to discuss magic, the good and the bad. I have a fun Job already, I'm an Illustrator, so unlike a lot of closet magicians who dream of quitting their office 9 to 5 (9 to 5.30 in the UK), I'm happy to do my walk around sets, just occasionally, but deliver (hopefully) a well oiled performance (Its the practice I enjoy, Its a Zen thing). At home, the kids groan when I want to show them a trick, and the wife looks at me with the 'So... how much did WE spend on magic this month!'face. I try to avoid showing her anything which looks too expensive! Haha, I bet I'm not alone! Well, that's me and magic and thank you for having me! |

Welcome zoic,
You have found the good life. Being a member will add to that. I'll see you in the Close-Up fora. You are not the only one hiding Magic and receipts. Fortunately we are both Magicians at my house. -Mary Mowder |

Thank you Mary.
I bet Its hard to fool the other in your house! It must happen once in awhile, so how long do you let each other sweat before you spill the secrets? |

Actually, it is such a great feeling to experience real wonder that we usually like to be kept in suspense for a while.
It is usually a few run throughs before I catch on. 30 seconds to a minute of thought for Tom to figure out anything I do. GRRRR! We can still be impressed by Magic that is well done, even if we know the secret. That is not to say that we are never mystified by Magic we see other people do but it is harder to "fool" your partner because you know their body language and "tells" pretty well by 40 years together. -Mary Mowder |

Haha good point! And well done on the 40!
Like you I can watch a Magician, maybe know most of their secrets, but simply enjoy the performance and skill. A great way to learn, get tips! There's always a Magician on the ferry crossing to France! |
