Is it just me or a lot of the magical feats in the movie are actually impossible?
I shall see you on the other side.

Yes, but isn't that true of most magician movies? I don't think Tesla actually invented a duplicator/teleporter.
Reality is a real killjoy.

Isn't it true of all movies?

That's why it's a movie and not a view out your bedroom window. Smile
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.--Yeats

I've never seen a movie about magic that didn't contain elements that are technically impossible.

It's called artistic license.

If the elements were technically impossible then how did you see them?
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Meaning, tommy, that the films depicted magicians' effects and illusions that would be impossible to perform as shown in a live performance.

Nightmare ally starring Tyrone power was a movie about a crooked mentalist. It did not have any special effect magic in this movie.

Eternally Yours Starring David Niven had one moment of trick photo where they made a girl appear. However the rest of the movie did not have any trick photo or special effect magic in it. The tech magician for this movie was Paul Lepaul. And he does a few moments of his flawless card fan productions in this movie.

A Haunting we will go Starring Stan Laurel And Oliver Hardy and Dante. Used some camera trickery when Dante had the two get into two different cabinets and they changed places. Also a tricked up hindu rope trick. But Dante does the asra levitation in this movie it is worth seeing.

I liked the film MAGIC I know Anthony Hopkins learned some moves for it.

That's interesting Bishthemagish.

On a side note, I wonder if the first escene from Birdman, when the guy is aparently levitating, is an actual trick rather than special effects. Anyone knows?

In the movie "The Sting", Paul Newman's card manipulations were actually performed by John Scarne.

Unless they are documentaries it is indeed Hollywood and reality is not expected.

The guys who made "The Illusionist" said that they weren't trying to recreate an 18th Century illusion show so much as what someone REMEMBERED of that show, which is to say, something exaggerated and actually impossible.
"There's no time to lose," I heard her say.
"Catch your dreams before they slip away."
"Dying all the time, lose your dreams and you could lose your mind.
Ain't life unkind?"

I'd agree that your vanishing act is very good. I have been there to see it, however it is very repetitive.
