Here's a place to discuss final loads, preferences, congruency etc. No reveals please. Save that for secret sessions.
One thing that you may want to be aware of is that the older fab fruit was larger so if buying on the 2nd hand market be sure it will fit. Bri |

I'm using sewn, seed filled juggling balls, solid colors, because I feel that for period performances they have a more old fashioned look, as though they could be painted leather. (Fruit of course looks "period," too, but I'm not a fan of it in general.)
This brings up the question, though, of when "final loads" appeared in history. Hocus Pocus Jr. has a trick with a larger ball in a cup, which is described directly after the cups and balls, but it seems not to be part of the C&B routine. It's a ball through the table trick. When do we first see larger balls, fruit, or other objects appearing as the climax to a cups and balls routine? Bill Palmer seems not to address this on his website when discussing balls in general. (I might ask this question in another place, too, where I can "tag" Bill in my post.)

When I was using these cups, I used the loads seen, although only four of them. I made them from vinyl (faux leather for the "swells" ). They are stuffed with seed. The cups are huge (I silently call them my flower pots). They are so beat up, and just gorgeous, eh? The balls are close to baseball size.

CJ, I read your post on the forum, Bill's reply was very interesting!
Michael, I love those cups, great patina, they look great with those seed load balls! Daren, those baseball type balls really pop with those cups, they look far too big to fit! Bri |

Hahaha!!!! Daren's posts were like a good C&B routine. The final loads showed up magically at the end! LOL!

Michael, I love your cups. The ball are great, too. That's what I had in mind, but I bought ready-made ones that are four panel in solid colors. Here they are with my sadly non-traditional Bazar de Magia cups, which were all I could afford at the time. I'd go for RNT Johnny Pauls in nickel or copper if I came into a pile of cash I could spend on magic. (I think I'm gonna have no more luck posting photos than Daren did. I've done this here in the past and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.)

CJRichard,
I saw your photo on Facebook. It is a very nice display. No worries on the Bazar de Magia cups. I have a set of those in brass and love them. I got the flower pots from Gary Animal the same time I bought a set of Animals from him. Both sets were used, so I got a great deal. The flower pots already had "character" when I got them. I decided to make the load balls based on some of the production balls I'd seen in Hoffmann and other illustrations from way back when. I don't know when spun metal cups became a thing, so I'm sure the audience doesn't either. Otherwise I'd try to locate some soldered tin cups (I'd still love to own a set). As you can see in the photo here, I didn't exactly try to be period with my character, but liked using the C&B set for outdoor festivals. They showed up really well.

Michael, I'm sure you already know about Win Harrison on etsy. He makes tin / copper / brass soldered cups and they're very nice. Todd was the first to have a set made, I may be wrong but I believe that Todd and Bill designed them with an improvement on how the saddle was constructed. I bought a set in copper and they are lovely!

Hi Bri,
I'll show my ignorance as an infrequent visitor (I'm not in the inner sanctum, but I can see it from here). I am not aware of Win Harrison and was not able to track anything down on Etsy. Any clues to aid my search? ~michael

Hi Bruce,
Thanks for that lead. I visited that site, and can only assume that whoever got cups, had them commissioned. I see nothing that indicates this. ~michael

Hey Michael,
It been a couple of years since I ordered my sets from Win... If I remember right I made a request of what I wanted and he got back with me on a price. Bruce |

Just send Win an e-mail and ask him what he can make for you. His prices are very reasonable.
