Hey, folks. Joe Diamond has sent another nifty video clip from my Halloween show, Haunting History. This particular piece is preceded by a little guessing game in which, after a few hints, people try to guess what object is inside a big envelope. The object turns out to be a mirror, and this routine is all about the folklore of mirrors:

Love the story line. We never have mirrors at the House of Discount Funerals and Birthing Center for those very reasons.

What a great performance, the script was very interesting, and the interaction with the people knocking on the mirror was very well thought.
Mr. Parr you are a great performer.

Love your clever and well scripted presentation. The audience clearly loved it too. Bravo.

Would have been really spooky if when the spectator knocked on the mirror the last time, something knocked back. Would be an overkill I am sure and may detract from the routine. Great performance.

Balaram, I think you're right, I am an Addams!

Thanks to everyone for the compliments! I'm glad you dig this. It's one of my favorites to perform, because the effect is so clear and visual, and I think we can all relate to the feeling that mirrors are a bit uncanny. Of course, magicians grow up with a special relationship to mirrors, because we learn by practicing in front of them. These days, though, I suppose video has supplanted that function to some extent. Do folks here still practice in front of a mirror?

Not for bizarre routines, but for manipulation, yes. But I've recently discovered that a delayed video app on an iPad is also super handy for getting the angles down on new slights.

Very enjoyable as always, I like effects with mirrors too.

THAT'S what storytelling magic/bizarre presentation is all about: Interesting, engaging, informative, entertaining, forward moving, focused, and as beautiful as it is mystifying. Lovely presentation. Wonderful venue.

Extremely well done, David.

Thank you, Hudson. When putting together the script, I ended up with a mountain of research material about the folklore of mirrors, so the difficult part was choosing what stuff to cut and what to leave in.
