Hello everyone, I am Cory, and I'm an amateur magician from China.
I've been studying magic for over 6 years, and now mainly focus on close-up magic. It is during the year of 2009 when I was inspired to learn magic. Magic was popular topic in China during that year with the advent of the famous magician Lu Chen on Chinese Spring Festival Evening Show. I was firmly attracted and dully amazed by his coins thru the table routine(not originated from himself). I began my magic travel with card magic, however I did not have any directions, so I learned from some free tutorials and some other magicians in my areas. I did not learn the mechanics grip and biddle grip as basic, but learned the classic pass at first, and I nailed it. I was amazed by myself when I saw myself doing the classic pass without flashing on video camera. The Elmsley Count is the second sleight right after I learned pass, because I have to use this sleight as well as the Braue Add On to finish the routine called "turn over" originated from Lu Chen. I understand the fact that there are a lot of pirate magic products as well as tutorials in China, and I have to confess that I used to be one of the customers of those on-line "magic shop". It is not until 2011 that I find how important creation and new brainchild are to the art, I decided never to purchase those pirate products again from that time on. All in all, it's really pleased to find a community like this to communicate with a lot of excellent mentor magicians from all over the world, I will appreciate the time here and really nice to meet you! Welcome Cory!
You have learned much (other than sleights)!!! My dear old friend, the late De Yip Loo came from Hong Kong in the '30s. He worked as assistant to DANTE, and later to HARRY BLACKSTONE SENIOR. Then he became a fine magician. He toured the U.S.A. for about forty years. Loo's daughter, Frances Mei Ling, is a concert pianist. She is on the Café, occasionally, and speaks Chinese. (I don't know for sure, what dialect, but, most likely that which is spoken in Hong Kong.) I can't remember the name she uses on the Café. I'll think about it and PM you when I think of it! Dick

Welcome Cory,
It is so much fun "meeting" to a Magician from China. I'm very pleased to hear your moral stance on creation in Magic. Lots of people start out seeing it as a victimless crime but come around to your point of view. -Mary Mowder |
