One of my all-time favourite live artists. BB and his band always treated the audience with the utmost respect. They put on their tuxedos for us, and gave us a great evening's entertainment.

I woke up to this sad news this morning. Although it was expected any day now, it still hurts. I worked with BB a few times and he was always such a wonderful inspiration, as a gentleman as well as a musician.
RIP old friend. The thrill remains. |

I figure that BB lived to 89, and played 200-300 nights a year for his entire adult life. His is a victory. We should all be so fortunate.

Nice tributes:
Buddy Guy (who often played with him): "BB King was the greatest guy I ever met. "The tone he got out of that guitar, the way he shook his left wrist, the way he squeezed the strings… man, he came out with that and it was all new to whole guitar playin' world. He could play so smooth, he didn't have to put on a show. The way BB did it is the way we all do it now. He was my best friend and father to us all." Eric Clapton posted a video tribute on Facebook to express his sadness at the death of his "dear friend": "I want to thank him for all the inspiration and encouragement he gave me as a player over the years, and for the friendship that we enjoyed," he said. "There's not a lot left to say because this music is almost a thing of the past now, and there are not many left who play it in the pure way that BB did. He was a beacon for all of us who love this kind of music." Lenny Kravitz: "BB, anyone could play a thousand notes and never say what you said in one." Ringo Starr: "God bless BB King, peace and love to his family. |

Thanks for posting that, Kabbalah. I am clueless when it comes to either "grabbing" a video or posting it.

More thanx to Kabbalah for the Clapton video tribute. BB was truly an 'ambassador' for the blues, not only introducing it to youth of all races in America and England, but worldwide as well. and thanx to Arthur Stead for that Buddy Guy quote about BB's "tone". One or two notes, and you knew it was BB! I was one of those long-haired white kids who saw him early on in the San Francisco Bay Area. At first he didn't know what impact he was having... many of us were buying his records in the mid-60's before he began appearing in larger mixed venues, trying our best to imitate the great bluesman. I grew a 'soul patch' (aka 'stinger') below my lower lip for BB in 1968... it's grey now, but it's still there. Although I never met him, I saw him live many times; and I feel like I've lost a 'friend' as well. Lynn
ps, there's an excellent episode on Sanford and Son with BB, that shows a very humorous side to 'Riley', capped off with a small club performance. worth checking out! |
