When I started to study magic as a career, I wanted to be an escape artist. BUT the props we're big and shows we're boring.
Mr. Steve Santini just sent me a prerelease copy of his BRAND new book! The knowledge housed in this book far surpasses the 4 magic marketing/structuring manuals I purchased this month (due to a slump in bookings). It will soon be a classic of magic. Though the basis is based on how to book and develop an escape act (HENCE MY POSTING HERE), I am a believer that ALL magicians "NEED" this. Review: Steve's a dear longtime friend of mine who has been a creative inspiration to me over the years. I never have read any of his other books, as I found escapes to be to technical, but as soon as I picked up this fine book I was hooked. The writing style is smooth and easy to follow. The "new classic" follows along the lines of greater magic, magic and showmanship, and other classics by providing theory. BUT, theory doesn't rule this book. Within these numerous exciting pages are funny examples of real world applications of this theory. You have to read about the biker bar... OK, this post is really long and I'm probably losing you. Heres the skinney: LEARN TO MAKE ESCAPOLOGY INTERESTING! You learn to structure your routine into an emotional edge of your seat roller coaster. Learn lighting and sound requirements to enhance emotion and drama. Learn how escapes can work for you! You can perform a whole show of JUST escapes, No cheesey rabbits and silk productions etc! Learn how to utilize simple straight forward psychology to go from the clown who does kids shows to the future Houdini! There's a secret in this book so good that I personally guarantee that it will get your phone ringing! I used it tonight and have gotten 2 phone calls from the 12 emails I sent out about an hour ago ( I am expecting a lot more tomorrow)! That good, that simple, that devistating! I can't rave enough about it... If for no other reason then the following buy this book! -You'll learn to be the 21st century Houdini making over $120,000 a year! I have left alot out for annenimity and to keep it magical, but if you need more convincing, PM me or call I'll add my personal office number (Thats how sure I am that this will revolutionize your outlook on escapes/magic).... Thanks Steve for creating the future reference guide for all entertainers! Scott Chenow 708.268.8403 |

I too have read Everything you Ever Wanted to Know About Entertaining with Escapes (but no one would tell you). and Steve asked me what my initial thoughts on it were. I told him the book was really bad, only because I did not want anyone else to use this gold mine of information, he informed me that he released several other advanced copies so, since I can not keep this for myself all I can say is wow!!! It is really a useful book that actually made me rethink a lot of what I do and have already done in the world of escapology.
WHAT is really great is that though written for escapologist from an escapologist perspective it can be applied BY ANY magicial venue, be it close up, mentalism etc. Hence the foward by Peter Loughran Unlike other false advertising we do not gurantee you will make $10,000 a week using this system, we have no 800 # that will give you insider information. BUT what Steve does give you is the logistics of everything from self promotion on a shoe string budget, to selecting an audience member to a great way to promote your show in such a manner that you can make A LOT OF MONEY!!!! That one piece alone is worth ten time the books price. The book will be available starting at Indy 2004. X-treem

I had the honor of writting the forward for this book. I was so impressed with the contents of this book, I have already went thru the material twice. Steve has outdone himself with this book or should I say tool!
We should all be thankful that performers like Steve are willing to share their expertise and knowledge with the rest of the industry. I think the price is too low! P.

Tony, believe me it was my pleasure. A surprisingly smooth read with easily graspable conepts. There are technique in this book that make you want to kick yourself and say: "Thats what I have been doing wrong."
As a side note, I just booked an alumni banquet using some of the techniques taught in this book! |

Mr Santini has been very kind and send me a pre-publication copy of his new book.
For those who have read the views X-Treem and Dr Zodiac about Everything you Ever Wanted to Know About Entertaining with Escapes (but no one would tell you), let me say this, Every word they have said is true. I am probably committing career suicide with this next statement but it makes Ratcheted Restraints look like a 'Post it' note in comparison. Save up and buy this book when it comes out. It is worth it. |

Hi,
I would prefer to try and be modest about the new work and instead let it's contents and the opinions of others on it do the talking for me. After all, it is only whether others feel that it, (the new book), is of use or not that will determine it's ultimate success or failure. My "two cents" really don't matter much in regards to the book. Cheers, Steve |

Hi,
Technically, it is "out" right now but I believe Shawn is going to officially release it at the convention. I know what you mean about not being able to attend the convention; so... feel free to contact Shawn and ask him the total including shipping and I am sure he will send you one just as soon as the box full I sent to him gets to his door. Many thanks. I hope the book measures up to the high praise it has recieved thus far and if you do in fact like it I sure would appreciate a few words regarding your opinion here on the Café. My very best to you, Steve Santini |

Hello all, I will release SOME before the convo and keep a few to take along. I'd put it on the site but as most of you know my computer is shot, the MEGA computer will be here soon and I can get to work on the site again as well as building my parents site.
In the mean time just email or PM me. Shawn

An open message to Santini and friends:
BRAVO! My copy arrived yesterday. I read this book last night straight through. It is wonderful! What comes shining through this writing is the experience of a thoughtful and perceptive person who sometimes broke the rules. Often, this was a good idea! The occasional human interest stories used as lessons are very fine, and illustrate the author's central point of listening to his audiences, not to other books, to other escape artists, or even to his handlers. Perhaps the wealth of experience that is summarized in such a concise and entertaining fashion in this book will take a few years of fumbling off the careers of emerging escape artists. I hope that I am able to take some of the lessons of this book to heart! Again, BRAVO! Yours, Paul |

You have to love reading the examples from Santini's past. Their funny, and is a helpful aside to the normal technical material others produce. I have booked several shows using his method in the book, while ot sure fire, booking agents usually jump at this scenario.

Dude you're forgetting, some of us don't have the cash saved up. You know I'm there, but teasing the folks without dough for it just yet. Not nice. ;-)

What seperates an okay performance from one that revisits the viewer's mind time and again well after the show is over? I beleive Steve's new book reveals the dynamics and tips that transform an act into a memorable performance. He leads you through the viewer's eye and mind so that you can predict and perform at a much higher contact level with your audience. I know my performances will be vastly improved as a result. THANKS STEVE!!!
