I am interested in participating in this year's close-up competition. Does anyone have any suggestions and/or tips for this kind of event?
Also, does anyone know what the jugging criteria will be? Any other information that could help me in this competition will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Alex :bikes:

Thanks Shawn, Wow that is almost everything you need to know to get into the contest.
Note the advice Shawn gave you at the top of his posting....."Play Big and Up!" Now let me give you a little bit more insight about what you will be judged on. I know I have been a judge in the past. There are if I remember correctly 10 different items you are scored on. Your opening-the way you greet the audience. Your appearance-your costume-appropriate dress. Your presence-your connection with the audience. Your movement-style. Your skill level. Your choice of material. Your originality. Your ending of the act. Your entertainment value and the audience's reaction. This should give you idea of what to expect. I will tell you it is the best judging system I have every seen. A great contest to be a part of. Make sure you attend the judge's critique session after the contest. Valuable information. See you in Cleveland. Steve Hart Cape Canaveral, FL USA

Oh yeah,
Remember to have a good time in the contest. I have made lifetime friends from the folks I was susposed to be competing against. It turns out my only real competitor is myself. I do my best or at least try to reach my own potential and the rest is mute. I am proud to call folks like Greg Frewin, John Shyrock, Ice McDonald and Juliana Chen my friends and I met the all at magic contests. Shawn |
