Do you have a "nice" set of cups that you have dropped and have a dent in it? Did you scratch a good set and feel terrible using it? Perhaps you have a nice set of cups with blood satins that would implicate you in a violent crime?

I am broke/cheap and looking for such a set!!!

I have a (I have no idea what they are, they were "gifted" to me and look to me made of tinfoil. I hate them, they suck). Before I spend 300 or so on a "good" set, I was hoping one of you would have something you are embarrassed to use and in pristine condition be considered "good"....let me know?

THANKS!

Be sure to visit the cups and balls museum web site. It's free, and it has a lot of information.

I have a lot of sets of "road warriors," some of which have been beaten so badly that you couldn't tell what they originally looked like. But they were all used by famous performers.

Looks like my post paid off, I got a good set of cups at a fraction of the price.

Just out of curiosity what cups did you end up with?

Bigfoot,

I found a nice copper set from rings n things, or so I was told they are an old RnT set. The weight is good (over 4z each) and they seem to be a larger size, which is what I was looking for. If you are looking for some, Mike has over at www.HardToFindMagic.com. He has some really rice sets in a wide array of price ranges. He is also very helpful and knowledgeable.

Thank you but I was really more interested in how it turned out for you. Giving the bit of hard time you got.

Bah! I don't really care. The way I see it, if you do not try, you will NEVER succeed. Shame some people don't understand that. I did have an amazing response from many members here, and a wide array of cups in all manner of prices. Truth be told, I did not want to invest 300+$ in my first set of cups as that would seem irresponsible. I am bound to drop, nick, scratch and bleed on them, so I figured a good weighted set would be a nice place to start.

Anyway, enough of my rambling. Bottom line, it turned out amazing. Some very nice and helpful people on here and go a set of cups I can abuse and properly learn with....

...now if only I can get the palming and loading right.....oh well....

That will come with time and it is not nearly as hard as you think. You probably have it better than you think anyhow. Just remember don't squint when you do it though Smile

I have "upgraded" to larger balls (1 inch) from the 3/4 size and I still flash way too often. The fluidity needed to properly build a routine is coming along, but far from performance ready. I have been playing with an idea, nothing new or revolutionary, but "mine" and hopefully engaging.

The Ammar DVD has helped, but I know I am missing some details about loading and palming. Perhaps I am not grasping the cups correctly, or I just am awful at it Smile

You may want to consider Al Schneider's work. His DVD, The Al Schneider Technique, Vol 1, teaches his basic vanish, which is my go-to slight. I find it natural and effective. At some point Tyler Erickson will put out a video (I heard he has it in the works) that will likely teach his variation on the Schneider vanish, which would be a very good resource as well.

If you are happy with Al's teaching style and technique, then you may also consider his DVD on the cups and balls. It has some interesting twists and good ideas that (in my opinion) complement Ammar's DVD and book.

Thank you for this!
I also found a very nice set of P&L copper cups and Mike was really really helpful!
