Is anyone here familiar with a Topit? I am looking into purchasing Ammar's book Topit 2.0. Can anyone give me any feedback on the topit, or on this particular version I am interested in obtaining?

I'm amazed that no one has anything to contribute to this topic. Smile

Pat Page (rip) was an expert with a topit, and had a whole video on the subject. I'm sure it's in his book (available from his site). TKO is a modern form of specialised topit I'd suggest. As with all utility devices, you will need to work at it and become comfortable with it - I've never used one myself as it doesn't fit in with my performing costume choices.

The topit is a wonderful utility that many people use incorrectly. It takes a very long time of practice to use properly, and requires some carefully crafted tricks in order to be used effectively. I haven't watched Ammar's DVD/tapes but I've seen him use the topit and I own his book, as well as a couple of tapes from Carl Cloutier, and I've seen Page's tape as well. Also, I met Jay Scott Berry at a lecture a couple of months ago. Peter Pitchfork also has a DVD. I've seen just the trailer, and while I don't think it's perfect, I think it's in the right direction. I have never seen Bob Fitch's tapes.
I think that in 90% or more of the times (I've seen so far), all those professionals use the topit in a blatant way. (Specifically, I abhor how Ammar vanishes decks of cards by suddenly raising his hands upwards...). Finding and understanding the 10% or less where they use it as it should, is the tough part.

The size/shape of the topit is a personnal thing. Once you know the principle, I find it better to make your own, based on the jacket you'll wear, and how high/low you want to allow your hands to go.

To, to sum up, prepare to put some work in...

P!

Great feedback Ado! Thank you so much for all the info! Sounds like something I should hold off on getting until I reach a higher skull level in magic. Thank you so much for you advice!

I bought the video and the plans for it years ago but never had one made. In Ammar's hands though, it is real magic.
