I agree. I very much admire the planning you are putting into this, and your desire to give the best lecture possible.

Thanks guys, I'm sitting here in the hotel double checking everything, I hope you like the show. Remember that it is $5 cheaper to pre-order it, even if you aren't going to watch it live.
If you *are* going to watch it live, remember that the team is on Twitter so you can ask questions just as easily as if you were there: if I'm gassing at a million miles an hour (likely) and you miss something or I skip over the important bit entirely, or if you have a question or even just a cool idea, you can post it to twitter by including #Penguinlive or @penguinmagic in your tweet and it will come through so we can hopefully hit it live in the lecture. I will surely use that and I liked the application of your DMC deck on the effect Let's Go For a Date.(I liked that you picked my suggestion for the name of the routine I would get the deck if the shipping wasn't doubling the price of the deck for me) Although I really enjoyed the presentational theme, and your thinking behind most of the effects if not all, it seemed to me that the energy level and the impact of everything was not as strong as it could be, there was a little dead time that was not made up for and the chairs on the background during the Thumbscrews Booktest distracted me from the effect a bit. Saying that, it was a lecture and as such I expect less of it in terms of structure for a real live show, and as a lecture it was great! I liked the design and the layering of your effects with Quinta as the Chair Test using it as soon as you finish the Telepathy effect, and I loved the Thumbscrew Booktest it was a mindblowing concept of actually doing what a lot of mentalists claim, and using that method makes the compromise invisible for laymen, also Michael Murray has a similar but diffrent effect to your backup that I believe is called ATM, you might want to check it out if you don't already know about it. Thank you for the lecture!

Hi Woover, thanks for naming the effect! Ref the energy level, I think we were hit by Fathers Day, and there were very few people in the studio which I think sapped the energy a little bit. I'm aware that it was a bit flat and whilst I did my best to push hard... I'm not Kennedy, lol. Thanks for your feedback though, I hope that the material I covered is useful and / or fun.

I am aware of the small amount of audience members not being your fault, and it was addressed as a weakness during the lecture so that the viewers will be aware that it will hit much harder on a live show/routine. I still thought it was worth mentioning during my review/feedback. Again, thank you for the lecture, for listening to our suggestions and doing your best to provide the customers with a great overall presentation, material and insights.

Hey Phill, really loved your lecture yesterday. The elegance of your methods was inspiring, and the subtle layers of deception that are built into each effect work to create powerful moments of mentalism. I really took a lot from it.
Thanks, Bret Thomas |

Phill's lecture was brilliant. This is the sort of material (and indeed exactly some of the material) I make my living with. I think the thought that goes into each effect is evident, and the tiny little convincers is such a powerful concept. If you've not checked it out, definitely do. It ranks right up there with my favourite Penguin lectures.

Thanks for the good vibes guys, the lecture has got 5* on the Penguin site, so that's nice.
I actually performed TCP (the Quinta chair test) at the P3 Tuesday Night Magic show at the studio on Tuesday, with a full audience of real people and I used the same kind of structure, setting up the prediction at the top of the set then finishing with it, and it KILLED. Dan Harlan helped me pick the perfect participant and the guy's face when he first saw the prediction in the envelope was amazing, it was the ideal model of that 2 stage revelation, the first being the punter's reaction, the second being the actual proof. It was great, and I was on the bill with the Ohio beatboxing champion, who was also incredible, and of course Dan did some of his Tarbell stuff, which was nuts and great to see live. Phill
