Otherwise known as the Dribble color change or the Scribble Change, this is a move I was taught close to 15 years ago by a magician named Tarquin who at the time claimed to have been one of the street magicians/performers who taught David Blaine during his earlier years. In fact, David even mentioned him in his specials. Needless to say, I was taught a few moves by him, including this one which he made it appear as though it was an original move. I have since then seen it used more recently under the name dribble color change or scribble change. If anyone knows the source of this, please share.

Looks like a move by Ben Harris in his book Magic From Which Memories are made ( 1982).

Looks like Superflip by Ben Harris. (Which may be in the book NicholasD mentioned.)

Just looked up the superflip. It's not that. Very similar. But the handling is different. I can trace it as far back as the scribble change or dribble color change. But that only goes back a about a year and this guy seems to claim to have created it. That's why I was trying to source it. Not a big deal. Was just wondering.
Here's the Scribble Change Demo: http://youtu.be/XrS6wXXAp0A

The handling is not different. That is Harris' move, only with a DF at the face.

Hello guys,
I finally was able to source a copy of Ben Harris' Superflip and learn the mechanics. It is in fact not the same sleight. So far I can tell it I still original to Thomas 'Tarquin' Churchwell. Thanks for the helpful in trying to source it.

Yep, it's T.C.'s.
Don't think it was ever published. You might check the Apocalypse index to be sure though. Best, Jed |

Card gripped at the corners. Deck dribbled, double flipped in the process.
That is Harris' move. What are the perceived differences? (Since OP went ahead and linked to a tutorial of the move in question, I'm just going ahead and assuming we're not beating around the bush in terms of methodology.) |

Near as I can tell, the mechanics are virtually indistinguishable from Harris' "Superflip". This other fellow may well have invented it independently, but Harris published first. I was reading the fellow's comments under the "tutorial" video and he doesn't seem to care that, while it's fine to claim independent reinvention, the general rule is "first to publish gets credit". I doubt further wrangling will change anyone's mind.

Rupert & Seraph127, This is a completely different method then Harris' effect. Cards are gripped differently, flipped in a different manner, bowed before flipping, finger positioning different. The moves couldn't be more different. Anyone who knows the mechanics behind Harris' effect and saw the mechanics on the TC flip would understand where I am coming from. See the following tutorials on the Superflip to see the cards are not gripped in the corners and flipped book-style, but rather gripped toward the center and flipped from the short edge toward the magician.
Superflip Demo: http://youtu.be/RuV6NmfoiM0 TC Flip Demo: http://youtu.be/4nTYMJVRheY Type 'Ben Harris Superflip' in YouTube to see the tutorial and you will see it is a completely different method. There are many sleight out there that accomplish flipping cards on the deck. Even the duck change by Dan and Dave is similar to this, even more so than the Superflip. You might as well claim that is Harris' move as well. But as you can see the mechanics in the duck change are different as well, even though it looks similar at speed and accomplishes is the same thing.

Sounds like something that might have been in Rusduck's THE CARDISTE. I'll do some digging and report back.

Second, the youtube tutorial you mention describes the Ben Harris move incorrectly. So, it is still my contention that the Tarquin move is not substantially different from Ben Harris' move. |
