When I'm offered a tip, I politely refuse it and tell them I'm very well paid for what I do.
"But I'll tell you what... why don't you just add that to whatever you're going to leave the waitress...." then I wink at them. A couple of times I've had those same customers go out of their way to shove a five or ten in my hand, but most of the time, the waitress gets the tip, and she tells the boss what a great guy I am and how they ought to keep me. |

I do want to say here, that this doesn't happen very much at resturants, but depending on the venue especially with richer folks, a lot of times they view tips as true appriciation and that they are hurt if you don't accept.
I don't work for tips and don't think that you should ask, and I always turn down the ones that are doing it because they "think" they should tip... But be carefuly about how you handle guys that routinely hand out big money to anyone who makes them slightly happen, those kinds of people can get a little bit miffed if you turn it down(more than once ) Accepting / Not Accepting tips is a delicate subject that takes a bit to recognize when you should and shouldn't accept a tip... |

Waitresses give 10% to the bus boy for their help. Why not do the same for your waitresses. If you get a tip share and show how appreciative you are for their help.
If you refuse a tip, you insult the patron. And if you tell them to leave it for the waitress they probably won't, because they want you to have it. Sharing shows you are a part of the team and a part of their team. |

Hi, sorry but I do not agree, If you tell them that you are a proffesional entertainer and you are paid extremely well for your work therefore it is not appropriate for you to except tips... no one will ever be offended in fact they will think more highly of you. Phillip |

Perhaps it is the cultural differences, and while I agree that your average resturant go-er might not get offended, there definatly ARE a lot of people that would be very offended if you didn't accept the tip.
This is a rather small percentage of people, but many feel that their tip is a way of showing their appriciation, and if you don't accept it will seem as if you are too good for their appriciation.... not a good situation to be in. I am not for siphoning tips from people, but I find that usually when larger tips are offered(20 bucks or more) that accepting it not only doesn't offend them, but they usually get to go home with a big happy feeling that they saw a great magician and they they "helped" them out.... I'm not saying I agree with the sentimate, I personally don't ever ask for tips or anything, and will turn them down if the person is tipping only because they "think" they should be tipping... But if the tip is given with the intent of that person truly appriciating the show and wanting to show that appriciation, then refusing it would be rude. |

It must depend on the manner in which a tip is refused. When I refuse a tip, it actually edifies the customer because I explain that I'm there "compliments of the restaurant," and I'm very well-paid. People often ask for my card at this point, and book me for private events. So It's unlikely they are insulted.

Hi all,
I talked to the manager again yesterday afternoon, and I'm suppose to meet with him tomorrow (friday) to discuss a price and details. I'll actually be starting monday after next on their kids night. I'm very excited about it. I plan on going for what the clown was making at least (around $80 plus 40 in meal tickets) for two hours. I'll let you know how it goes, Thanks again everyone, Chad |
