Being a magician and all, someone asked me just today if I knew anything about the condition of Roy? Actually I do not. I saw some columns in a scandal magazine the other day, stating that he was begging to die. However, I put little stock in that. Does anyone actually have any information that seems to be based on facts.

I also saw the article about 'wanting to die,' but you can never believe the trash from papers like that. The last I heard he was doing better, but has a LONG road ahead of him. I heard though that he was able to walk a few steps on his own. If this is true, then that is really great news. It is hard to believe anything you read or see on TV unless it comes directly through Siegfried, Roy, or their manager though.

I saw that too, about him loosing a lot of weight
and looking very thin.

but if you understand what happens to someone when
they have stroke you can see why someone would think
that.

when my dad had his massive stroke he spent a lot
of time in bed because that is all he could do and
you loose a certain amount of body fat when every
day you spend in bed. my dad who is about 155lbs
went to 135 and looked very much like roy.

until they began extensive PT/OT/ST with him which
can take up to a year he will begin to look more
healther. Of course he will have defits. It unknown
to me at this moment what they are, I might find
out this weekend, but his smile could be crooked,
his processing is slowed. Depending on where he
had the stroke exactly he could loose his ability to
speak english. Hopefully he won't like my dad. There
is also the arm, the arm is the hardest to gain back.
He could also have a drop foot. He might not be able
to swallow his food and will have to have a feeding
tube in his stomach. His drinks might have to have
a thickener as well, so he will asperate.

When someone has a stroke, the post-stroke recovery
is slow. The nerves are damaged and they can not
be regenerated. He will have to make new
pathways from the brain to the extremities.

So it might be a long time before we ever see Roy in
the public eye. And even then I am sure people will
treat him like a Disabled person, becuase people
do not understand what a stroke is and they do not
understand the recovery process. unfortunately.

The recovery from strokes can be highly variable, but the process indeed takes a very long time. Rehabilitation hospitals are usually the best places to collect the teams that provide the needed care.
By the way, as a physician and part time hospital administrator, I have been involved with our hospital's complying with new federal regulations regarding privacy (the HIPAA statutes). Anyone caught divulging "PHI" which is personal health information, without the invidual's consent, is subject to criminal fines and imprisonment. This is new, for the past year or so. The statutes were designed to help protect all of us from internet related abuses, but were also designed with VIPs in mind, as well.
So, we should not be surprised if we hear little if anything about his recovery - I would assume that represents his wishes.
