Steve Spill's new book "I LIE FOR MONEY," is flat out awesome...
I'm sure you need more information so here we go. This sin't your typical magic book. In fact, it's really just an autobiography of Steve's whole career as a magician. It starts when he was about 6 years old and he hasn't slowed down since. The book jumps around a little bit, so it's not a direct timeline but the stories flow well and it's incredibly easy to read. In fact, I read the whole book in about a day in a half, not because it was short... but because it was hilariously entertaining. I mean the book actually had me laughing out loud a few times and that's a pretty rare thing for me. Here are some things Steve talks about: -His years with Bob Sheet's at the Jester in Aspen Colorado -Why it sucks to be the girl in a box illusion -What happened when Steve went to Africa and met a real witch doctor -His time with some of best there ever was: Dai Vernon, Charlie Miller, Kuda Bux, Carazini, Senator Clarke Crandall, Francis Carlyle and Albert Goshman. He also discussed a great handling for the Dr. Q Hypnotic Act that he developed and still uses to this day. Okay, I won't give any more away but the reason this book is beautiful is because it shows the hard work and dedication Steve has for the art of magic. He's been putting in the work for a LONG time and still killing it today. So if you want to be a professional, I would recommend reading this book and seeing what it takes. It also shows how hard you have to work to continually work on your material (like some of the comedians he mentions in the book). Or if you are just looking for some reading material on this beach this summer... It's worth it. Thank you Steve for sharing your stories, you are awesome! Steve Spill joins Michael Lauck to discuss creating his own venue, comedy, magic and, of course, his new book I Lie For Money.

From my book I LIE FOR MONEY http://www.amazon.com/Lie-Money-Outrageo......32204924
Along with his two daughters and wife, Adam attended our show. The family shared popcorn, Mr. Sandler preferred to chain suck Tootsie Pops. Those hard candy lollipops with the chewy chocolate center can be addictive. Adam was indestructibly charming and greeted me as though we had known one another for years. There was no sense about him of someone jaded, or who had seen-it-and-done-it-all… if I didn’t know better, by the way he seemed impressed with my tricks, I would have assumed he’d never witnessed a magic show before. We hung during the intermission and I appreciated him taking the time to visit. By the time the performance resumed, a gaggle of paparazzi had assembled in front of Magicopolis. Not sure how these instantaneous papa-ratso things happen, but it does with very hot stars. They’ll stay outside, but they’re not shy about pressing their cameras right up against our lobby windows. One of the worst in memory, was when at the peak of her Alias tv show fame, Jennifer Garner visited. Situations like that, and the Sandler one, necessitate undercover surreptitious back door exits. When the show ended, simultaneous to the Sandler’s secret back alley departure, another photo opportunity arose out front. As the crowd was filing out, a very excited Adam fan ran from the theater and screamed out loud for everyone to hear, “I got it, I got it! I got Adam Sandler’s Tootsie Pop! Adam ate this!” What she held tightly in her hand, high above her head, and waved profusely, belonged in the garbage. It was a tiny dab of chocolate on the end of a little white stick. Who knows, maybe she made a bundle selling that sucker as an authentic memento on eBay? |

I happened to be in Santa Monica last week and stopped by Magicopolis. Steve was gracious enough to give me a tour of his theater even without me asking for one. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to catch the show and will definitely make a point to do so in the future.
I picked up the book and agree it's a very fun read indeed! |
