I like to do effects with this smart system.
But, I have done same effects for many years now. If anyone have som tips on where I can find great effects that uses The Si Stebbins Order, make a comment here. :bikes: In Darwin Ortiz´s book; At The Card Table, there is a superb techique to make a brand new deck in Stebbins order. So, if you can do two perfect in-faro shuffles plus a overhand shuffle sequence, then you are set for miracles with a deck of cards... |

Kjellstrom.
The learned pig has a book on the Si Stebbins System. PS I found this by chance whilst playing with this system. Cut the two of hearts to the bottom of the pack and deal 4 poker hands and see what happens. |

Who is the "learned pig"? A writer or a magician? Webpage URL?

"Stewart James, The First 50 Years" a "The James File" are loaded with good thinking on Si Stebbins.
Also: "Annemann's PracticalMental Effects" "Jinx". "Scarne on Card Tricks" "Corrinda 13 Steps" Although not Si Stebbin, for some cool info, Fulves "Charles Jordan's Best Card Tricks" has some effects with stacks that are killer that people aren't used to seeing. Ted (Leondo) |

There is an excellent effect using the Si Stebbins stack in the book: "The Card Magic of Nick Trost." It's called the Automatic Lie Speller and you'll find it on page 155.

Phil Goldstein had in a lecture many years ago and effect called Las Vegas Pulse Reading. It's a great use of the Stebbins set up but will work with any other set up. The notes I believe were called Card Tricks for People who Don't Like card tricks... and some for those who do.
I always do this effect when I have a large group because it uses the whole group and has a killer ending. Basically, you talk about the five levels of Las Vegas Pulse reading and then five individuals pick cards and you find each card using a different level of this so-called Pulse Reading. It's a great effect so hunt down those lecture notes. Greg

By the way, I read in Genii Forum several months ago that the principle for Si Stebbins Order was invented by a Italian man, HORATIO GALASSO.
From Genii: “Giochi di Carte Bellissimi di Regola e di Memoria…..” by HORATIO GALASSO , 1593 !! That’s to say “Beautiful card tricks by rule and memory…” , in modern words “.. using arithmetical principles and prearrangements”. Yes, you’ ve heard very well!! Thanks to Vanni, now and only now we can arrive at the first prearrangement written in the history of Magic: so the famous Si Stebbins’ System should be properly renamed Galasso System. ----- You can read more about this on Genii Forum; search on "Stebbins" |

Theres a routine on page 140 of the Ortiz " At The Card Table" called " You Do As I Did"
that uses the Stebbins setup and Invisible Deck. I think it is great! |

Lots of Si Stebbins material in Steve Beams books of Semi Automatic Card Tricks. He is is working on yet another book and I hope it also has Stebbins effects in it.

Thanks for the plug, Muecard! Just to point out, though, that the Stebbins connection is just a 'special case' for Up The Ante and that I personally prefer a generalised set-up - there are literally millions of ways to set up a deck for Up The Ante - and the customer shuffles the deck prior to the magic, too! Also, the deck can easily be used on other effects prior to Up The Ante.
Have you tried 'Up The Ante' yet?? The ultimate gambling demo....a self-working wonder! See the reviews here on the cafe.

Check out Steven Youell's work. He does some incredible things with the stack and it's masked very well. Even magicians in the know...won't even know.
