Since you didn't make it to St Louis,
consider Ring 129 of Kansas City Mo. I used to be an active member. They have a great core group of officers who have served on the local , regional and international levels of the I. B. M. Harris.

Dick:
I bought your book, "Road Scholar," and I'm working my way through it. I'm enjoying all of the book, but I find the trick section especially interesting. I really like your pack small, play big approach, your emphasis on the classics, practicality, simplicity of props and handling. Have you thought about releasing a performance-only DVD featuring this material? You must have some film or video footage of your school assembly shows. I'm guessing that anyone who buys your book would also jump at the opportunity of buying a matching performance DVD--I know I would. It would be a big plus to be able to view this material as well as read about it. Noland Montgomery |

I'm only about half way through this 400 page tome and I have to say, this book is a pure goldmine of magical advice and wisdom.
You'll definitely cut a decade off your learning curve by studying the golden nuggets that are sprinkled throughout every page. And, even if you're a seasoned professional, you're bound to walk away with some great ideas that will make you a better magician, entertainer and salesman. I don't perform school shows but if I did, this book would be my bible. I crack up sometimes when I hear some folks boast about how many shows they've performed. Dick, these guys are pilgrims compared to you! I've lost sleep the last few nights because I can't stop reading this book. While I've peaked ahead at several chapters, I can't wait to get to the trick section. Dick Oslund - you are a magic genius. Gerry |

Dick and I got back from Abbott's Get-Together yesterday afternoon, and when we arrived there, we learned that the books that Greg Bordner purchased a couple of weeks ago were SOLD OUT...so we replenished their supply on the spot..Abbott's sold DOZENS of DICK OSLUND:ROAD SCHOLAR...and the magicians there, including many seasoned, working pros, were delighted to get Dick's new book, chat with him, and have him autograph the book for them. Several of them even bought two copies.......with the intent to give one to a magician friend.
Greg Bordner told us that he was SURPRISED by the number of books sold, so he ordered more on the spot so that he would have some in stock. One of the highlights of Dick's book signing there (to me at least) was the look on Tom Mullica's face when I told him that Dick was there and wanted to see him.....Tom's face lit up like a little kid at Christmas, and it was great to see those two friends re-united after a 20-year respit and I got a GREAT photo of them together! I have been EXTREMELY fortunate to have had Dick Oslund as my mentor and friend for the past 30 years......and I can say this with absolute certainty: If Dick Oslund says it......YOU CAN TAKE IT TO THE BANK.....LITERALLY!!! The next stop on Dick Oslund's book-signing cross-country tour is at the 77th Annual Houdini Club Convention in Houdini's boyhood home town...Appleton, Wisconsin, at The Paper Valley Hotel. Dick will be signing books there beginning at Noon, Saturday, August 29th. |

P.S.! Thanks to all who have a copy of my "epic" (???)!
It was a real joy to see so many old friends in Colon on the two weekends--and, to meet so many new friends, too! Thank you all for your nice comments, above!!!

Dick, I for one would look forward to a DVD. Hope you can find enough usable material to produce one.

It's unfortunate that we didn't have the technolgy to preserve magicians of note from years ago. Now that the technology is available, we should save these pieces of our history. There are ways of cleaning up the visual as well as the audio to make them more palatable.

Dick, I too have received your book and I'm thoroughly enjoying it--every part. Your review of history, your personal stories, your practical tips, and your routines are all so enlightening and entertaining. Thanks again for your work. I second Bill's suggestion above for a DVD.

Yes, Dick is a brilliant entertainer...I remember a school show a few years back, he performed and entertained with his original Miser's Dream -- what a reaction! -- amazing, funny and memorable!
Is his Miser's Dream in the new biography? Thanks. |

Is the deluxe version of the book available yet?

Constructive criticism here. There are a few glitches that snuck through in the book (it happens to everyone). I would think they should be corrected before making the deluxe book.
Perish the thought someone though Dick went to school stupid and came out the same way . It is just a deluxe version should be a more permanent archive that is in the best possible light. Shucks, I think I even have a few photos I could send Dick (besides the one from the post office) (Boy is that an old joke) Richard
