I saw this on L&L's website and I'm just wondering if anyone has this yet? It looks to be a killer deal..
42 pages of Slydini’s annotated instructions including; 69 photographs, 2 custom made silks, DVD of Bill Malone performing AND explaining his handling of Slydini’s Knotted Silks. Now, for the first time, everything you need to add this classic to your own act is in one place. First, there’s instruction from the master himself as Slydini guides you through the routine step by step in the original meticulously written and photo-illustrated manuscript. Then, pop the DVD in your player to watch Bill Malone, one of the world’s greatest magicians working today, perform “Test of Strength,” his handling of Slydini’s classic routine, for an obviously baffled and entertained audience. Then get ready to learn as Bill teaches his routine in minute detail, complete with all of his own handling nuances. The combination of the written word and the visual medium of video have, perhaps, never been used to greater effect. Finally, there are the props—two silks of the exacting requirements for the routine, enabling you to have the right materials to begin the learning process immediately. The mystery and entertainment of the Slydini’s Knotted Silks is now within your grasp. The only thing missing from the equation—and a new generation of enchanted audiences—is you! $40.00 - BUY NOW!

What do you want to know about it. This is like a Zombie, a lot of magicians own it, only a few do it.
It has been around for many years as Slydini always sold them in his lecture. The routine is explained in Slydini's book "The Magic of Slydini", Chapter 13, page 177, "Slydini Knotted Silks". If you are willing to put the time and effort into the effect only you will know if it is for you in the end. |

Rick,
As the ad says, you get everything there - the booklet, the silks and the DVD of Bill Malone performing and explaining the routine. The book is from The Annotated Slydini book. If you already have the Bill Malone DVDs AND The Annotated Slydini book, then what you need is the new Slydini silks from L&L. These are the best silks for the routine - better than any set out on the market. I own the Palmer silks and the Draun Silks and these look and work better than either one of those. The biggest difference is obvious when you see the silks. These look like regular silk pocket hanks. They do not have the ugly grid pattern running through them like the others. The next difference is they are extremely smooth to work with. Upsetting the knot is just easier with this set. These were not out when Bill Malone shot the DVD for L&L, so you will see him with another set, however this is the set that Bill Malone works with now. If any of you know Bill, contact him and I'm sure he'll give these silks the same praise I am. Try these once and you'll use them for life! |

Thanks, Steve. I know that several years ago to buy the silks for that you had to pay almost $30.00 in some cases. I'm planning on getting this myself just based on the fact that it allows a chance to see more than one presentation... might spark my thinking to come up with something of my own.

Do you know if the silks can be bought separately - and if one has coloured stitching down one edge - so that the ends can be told apart when the knot is being tied?
Thanks |

Banafish,
When Slydini sold the originals, with no instructions they still sold for $20.00 Years ago. You are getting a deal as it is, unless you wish to purchase a parachute yourself for 2 small hankies. I do not own the new set, but they would not be Slydini silks without the different colored thread stitching on one side, now would they. |

$32.00 for just the silks and $40.00 for the silks, routine and DVD. Hummm? Which is the better buy?

Years ago I took lessons from Slydini. He taught me the knotted silks and sold me the silks. I think the silks cost 20.00 bucks, but I'm not sure. The important thing is that it was and is a great routine. I performed it literally, hundreds of times, always got a great reaction. When I get booked at a repeat show, people always ask,
"Are you gonna do the trick with the knots?" I have not seen the current DVD. However, for forty dollars it is very worth it. Bill Malone is an excellent performer and his slant on the trick is absolutely worth seeing and probably learning. And for forty dollars, you get the dvd, silks, etc, etc... You can't beat it. |

I have the "On The Loose" Dvds, and I actually am lucky enough to own a first edition of the "Magic of Slydini" book, so I wouldn't be looking to buy the whole set regardless of how much of a good deal it is. And incidentally in the photographs in the book I seem to remember that Slydini was using a red and a white silk (well light and dark anyway) - probably only as it makes the photo's clearer as to which is which, but consequentally THAT is why I asked the question about if one was to include the red stitching. |

This is wierd.... Hank Lee's advertises this Slydini effect, and right above it, is the Tony Clark - Slydini Silks video for $65.00 .....Are these the same effect, and which one would be recommended?

I haven't seen Tony Clark's, but I'd have no problems thoroughly recommending the Bill Malone.

Sorry it took me so long to respond, but here's the deal with the L&L Slydini Silks.
1. Yes, one of the silks has the red thread running on the hem. 2. Yes, you can buy them separately. If you already have a routine or the Slydini book & Malone DVDs. They are $30.00 from L&L.http://www.llpub.com/catalog/product_inf......s_id=459 3. These Slydini Silks are the best out there right now. As I mention previously, these look like regular pocket hanks, there is no grid pattern running through them like other sets. They are the smoothest, easiest to work with set of silks you will ever use for this! These have never been available before. 4. Bananafish - you said "I was just trying to ensure that they are the silks that Bill Malone used on the DVD." When Bill did the DVDs, these silks were not being made yet. In close ups you will see Bill used the older set with the grid pattern. HOWEVER - these new ones ARE the ones Bill Malone uses now! Out of the package - these silks work better than any silk out there. If you send me a PM, I'll give you a tip that Bill Malone passed along to Louis Falanaga, and Louis passed on to me that makes them work even better! |

If the Bill Malone video shows him performing the effect without these new silks, then that would seem to imply that it is not necessary to buy these new silks to perform the effect.
If these new silks feel unlike regular pocket squares - slipperier, for example - would that not immediately destroy the impact of the effect? |

You don't need these new silks to perform the routine. These silks are just better made then what was previously available and those who do perform this regularly will appreciate the differences.
They feel just like a regular pocket square! They look like a regular pocket square! (a little larger perhaps)There is just something about them they make the whole process easier. |

Hello Steve,
I have bought the Slydini silk with Bill's DVD last year from L&L. Is now the new silks are different with the one I bought last year ? Thanks |

Steve Pellegrino Loyal user 224 Posts |
Yes, these are different silks. They were just released this week. The ones you bought last year were probably from Palmer Magic.

Not sure if this is part of the issue but I know from talking to someone else that has been doing this for a while you really need the special parachute material silks (like those L&L has) since they are durable and withstand the punishment this routine puts on them.

I purchased the silks with the red stiching from Palmer Tilden. He sells a practice set and the real deal. Both you can use in performance. You can get 18" and 24" silks.
You'll have to search for his name at google.com John Cesta |
