Dear Readers,
I'm a passionated cardworker from Switzerland. So please forgive me for if my english is a little bit confusing sometimes. But I'll do my best to make myself clear in any ways possible. That's a promise. ;) I would like to introduce myself telling you that I was about 9 years old, when I started playing around with a Piatnik "Magic Christian" card-trick set and couldn't stop playing around with cards ever since. Frankly, I had ups and downs, threw the cards away for some time – especially when I've overdone practising. However ... A deck of cards is to me what a piano is to a pianoplayer. It is a revelation of self-reflection, a tool of communication and meditation. I use it to exercise my hands and my brains. Sometimes, I use it to conjure a smile upon a face that was not very happy before. Sometimes, I use it to tell a story about that little wonders can happen to you the time you least expect them. A deck of cards will always be a teacher to me. It teached me alot about what is out there to learn from life, from communication with people, communication with oneself. I see myself being like a Samurai. Working little wonders in a world that is in need for wonders. My sword is poker-size and of graceful appearance. Full of methaphors, dreams, desires, colors and truth. What more is there to tell? My level of experience? I don't know all the moves. I know quite alot from reading but worked only on a few to perfect them. (I worked two years on the pass only to learn that I still have to practise more to improve it.) I like to adapt 'standards' (i.e. the pass) and redesign them to fit my personality and my natural movements. Some people do alot of moves and alot of card tricks. I do about 3 moves and know but one or two cardtricks (self-working) by heart. The rest is left to improvisation. What am I looking for? I'm looking for learing experience. To share a thought or two. Thank you very much for your time. Greetings from Switzerland -Elknase P.S:"My girlfriend shies away when she sees me advancing with a deck of poker-size playing cards. I wonder why? " |

Hi Elknase,
Thanks for your introduction and welcome to the Café. The Café provides grammar host to assist non-english speakers as we are visited by magicians from over 80 different countries. I'm impressed with your english writing skills as you seemed to have no difficulty at all. My suggestion to all newcomers is find a forum or two that interest you the most. Scroll back a few pages and see what's been discussed in the recent past. In time you will feel comfortable posting or asking a question of your own. Please don't hesitate as it's a friendly place. Have fun! |

Welcome to the Café. I affirm your competence in comunicating adequately in English. You have entered a great place for discussions on all areas of magic art. Personaly I perform only a few card effects because people often expect them but they do not come naturally to me. I am sure you will enjoy reading posts in this forum and I encourage you to ask some questions and offer your opinions. I will keep an eye out for your contributions. Troppo Bob |
