I just purchased and received a pre-release copy of Mindpro's new book "Press and Media for Entertainers". This is something I have really looked forward to for sometime, for two different reasons. One, the topic appeals to me, but more importantly, reading Mindpro's material always causes me to think. Today I read the first 40 pages or so. Naturally, their are things presented that I had not fully considered before when it comes to utilizing media to my full advantage. I also realize that I would need to spend much more time in preparing myself, should I desire to leverage this opportunity to the fullest.
This is when I started to think of what one should concentrate on and prioritize when running a solo entertainment business. Essentially, in the end, we are all trading time for money. To me, this means that ones business model can best be optimized by focusing on developing a brand that has maximum worth and value because supply is limited. Many of the magicians I see here run their business as though it were a commodity in plentiful supply. I share this, because as I was reading Mindpro's book it made me realize that activities that enhance ones personal image and help to create celebrity status are paramount and sould be set the top of the priority list of where to devote time investment. Mindpro has often shared that the Entertainment business is unique. I can see clearly the prioritization of where to invest time and financial resources is different for a solo entertainer than other forms of business. 40 pages in, and I now have better respect for the importance and relevance of the role Press and Media should play in developing and growing an entertainment business. I realize that if one approaches media and the press like the vast majority of us do, they will not appropriately prioritize their time and financial investments because they will not understand the potential value that Press and Media offer. I will share additional comments on the book when I complete it. I want to thank Mindpro for getting the book ready for release, as I know it was quite an involved process. |

Sbrundage, sorry, it's been crazy since word got out about it's completion. You had a PM thread of our exchanges from back in December when your video was happening and our discussions and my offer/assistance, but you must have deleted it. I have cleared some space in my PM box so you should be able to get through now (if you hurry, lol).

I have completed my first reading of Mindpro's book. While I do not believe I am qualified to offer a review, I will share some of my thoughts.
Mindpro has made mentions of releasing this book for some time now. I always wondered why he would have his first release in many years be a topic that is such a niche, even within the entertainment business. I understood that it was a area of unmet need, but beginning with subjects that were broader in scope seemed like a more sensible approach to me. After reading his book "Press and Media for Entertainers", I now realize that one's understanding of the Press and Media as it relates to business opportunities should be viewed as a important component of a well run enterprise and not merely an off shoot. I now see that this information would have allowed me to propel my growth much more rapidly had I applied the techniques discussed, throughout the last five years. I have been extremely fortunate and benefitted greatly from advice and opportunities afforded to me through the relationships I formed on TMC. I now see that better leveraging Press and Media opportunities can be a daily commitment and not just something that one invests time and energy in around marquee events. This book has changed the way I perceive the role of Press and Media in running a business, let alone an entertainment business. |

Got a chance to read it. Wow! Lots of great stuff inside. Over the many decades I've read various books on publicity and making press releases. I knew some of the stuff already, but I loved the in-depth analysis of the various formats, media outlets, etc. I especially liked the final chapter where he gave all the reasons as to why and how you can monetize your media experience.
I'm sure this is going to help many out there who've never even thought about approaching their local papers, radios or TV stations. Great job!!! Greg

What I have always found to be powerful in the content Mindpro offers is that he is able to share advice from the perspective of a true coach. Most who offer advice do so based upon their personal journey, sharing what they did to get where they are. While this type of information has value, it is not nearly as impactful as information that allows one to be the best THEY can be, based upon their individual circumstances. Mindpro's book delivers on this, in a big way. I can see a broad range of people benefitting greatly from this, regardless of the type of entertainer, level of success, markets, or business model one has. |

Thanks charliecheckers and Greg for the kind words and I'm glad you found value and information in the book. It has been and is one of the most underused, misunderstood and underutilized things that almost any decent entertainer has at their disposal to create such a wide variety of benefits and results.
It is packed full of real-world info that I tried to offer in easy to understand and apply segments. There are definitely insider's secrets and tips throughout that most would never realize or if so, only after a great deal of trial and error and discouragement. I think one of the greatest misperceptions is that this type of coverage and promotion is only available to celebrity performers or well-established entertainers. It's not. Truth be told it has more to offer and greater value to the solid unknown working performer than anyone else. Yes, including kids/family performers (in some cases more than others). I agree with Greg that this is going to help many out there who've never even thought about utilizing local and regional media, or have even realized this opportunities were available to them. It also will help those that have had or are experiencing getting some press and media coverage, as charliecheckers said, to better understand how and what to do with these opportunities for the greatest benefits and results. When it comes to press and media, there is definitely a right and wrong way. Understanding this in advance give you an extreme advantage and position for success. Trust me, your competition doesn't have this information and you won't want them to. I've been told by almost every one who has read the book it is waaayyy underpriced for the content offered. This is info that is for the serious not just the curious. I am selective of who I make my information available to as for years it has only been available to my coaching students and consulting clients. This series will be no exception. It will be made available to a broader range of performers but I will remain quite selective as to who I'm offering this information. The next two releases in the series will be just as valuable to the working performer part-time or full-time, and as pointed out, this is not my story (although they are definitely sprinkled throughout) but based on knowledge, my very unique perspective and facts, not just one's opinion, and is designed to allow you to use and adapt it to your individual preferences, needs and personal situations so it best serves you, your specific business and level. This is all about business. Business is where success is made in entertainment, the performance is just the product. I think it was Brian Miller's interview with Kris Sheppard where he mentions his first coming to realize than there is a whole world of unknown (not known name performers) performers operating on a professional level that are making great incomes, executive level six and seven figure incomes as entertainers that do very well for themselves, that are unknown to most. Most only think of the struggling part-timer or the celebrity names we all know. The reality is this level of relatively unknown working pros is the mass, the majority of performers working today. The information in this book is for and even more beneficial to them. Yes celebrity entertainers have and do use the information I teach and share in the book, but more so do these other five levels of entertainers that I've discussed here as well. I appreciate the great feedback and hope to hear form some of the others that have purchased it, and from those of you that use and apply the steps offered and how it impacts your performing business. |

This Ebook is a fantastic resource for any newcomer,or indeed a performer who is looking for some direction. Some of the advice contained within the book is invaluable to those who want a fastrack way into the media. For those that read it and take the advice literally, it will have saved them a fortune, and just as importantly, a lot of heartache along the way.
It is a written by a man who clearly knows the world of media and all of the pitfalls within. Really well written, and comprehensive to boot. Really good stuff. I don't recommend a lot, but I highly recommend this when it becomes available. Robert.

Sounds like many positive words. I am excited and curious when this will be available to more people. I have enjoyed the well thought responses of Mindpro on other discussions, and I have no doubt his book delivers the same quality of content.
As a hobby magician (with paid performance experience), I am looking forward to learning from Magicians like Mindpro as I “jumping out of the nest” into the world of professionals.

Mindpro,
I tried to PM you but your box is full. Is the book available for purchase yet? I'm currently writing a news release for a local professional mentalist friend of mine. I was a TV reporter for 12 years so I know what the news media looks for, but I'd love to read your advice. |
