I'm just curious to see what the benefits of magic are on the rest of your life. I've only been actively pursuing the learning of magic for a short time, but I've already noticed benefits on other parts of my life. One thing that has always bothered me is that I often feel the need to be able to measure my accomplishments, and in the past that has come out in unhealthy ways, and I was trying to control things in my life in an unhealthy way in order to feel like I was accomplishing something. In trying to find a way to feel accomplished without being unhealthy to myself, magic really does that for me. I see someone do something and want to figure out how to do it myself, and when I figure it out, it's a great feeling. It gives me a healthy avenue to channel my ambition.
I'm hoping that as I learn more and build up the magic side of my life, I will find more benefit overall in the non magic parts. Have you seen any benefits from becoming interested in magic? |

Well, having watched my grandson transform from a timid 10 year old into an adult fully able to speak to a large group, present a thought or position in a logical, persuasive way, look a person straight in the eye without flinching, debate complex topics, and entertain a group at any time and without notice, I am convinced the pursuit of magic skills has many, many benefits other than the great feeling of performing it...

I am not necessarily convinced having to figure out others tricks is a good thing.

Growing up with a speech impediment magic helped me get in front of a crowd. That's helped me in my line of work as well as my participation in Toastmasters.
As I rarely like the patter that comes with a trick I'll develop my own. This has helpd my with my storytelling which my kids loved growing up, and in explaining to my wife the odd late night out...

The most direct benefit for me is using magic as an ice breaker, a conversation starter, and the happiness I get to just make people smile.
My wife and I travel two or three times a year and wherever we go, I bring along some magic. Since I rarely perform professionally, I love to perform for random strangers wherever I may be. I've walked around the dining room on cruise ships performing for people, I've performed for small children in third world countries. It never fails to bring smiles to peoples faces and I've rarely been turned away or told that they were not interested. |

For me, it's been very useful professionally.
For example, I'm never remembered as "the risk management consultant." (Nobody is.) But I'm certainly remembered as, "the magician." |

I have to be careful because magic can put a strain on my marriage. With working full time and also performing part time (but sometimes seems close to full time) I have to make sure I leave time for my wife. I make sure to make time for the kids and their activities but I sometimes neglect the wife thinking "she will understand since I am making money for us". But that is not how she perceives it. I have learned to tread carefully and always check with her before I make a commitment for a show.

As a kid it allowed me to be accepted in adult company --- more interesting than kid stuff to me.
LAter on I shifted from performing for entertainbmen to using my knowldge anf skills in busines presentations as alegory to break buisnes sow ners out of their "can't do" attitude. It also passed the time in lonely motel rooms, as I invented effects with many natural objects. I preformed effects for more thna 50,000 business owners who never knew I was a magician. The skills also helped me as a sales trainer where I hd each student learn and present a magic effect. It did a lot for thier confidence and presence. Fro me the key is astonishment or awe and wonder. Whether the think "magic" was conditional and peronal. Now I find awe and wonder in everything and write hundred sof peoms and stories each year.

What shame?
I asked you a question. Do you object to comments about religion? Or just to religious comments with which you disagree?

Same as you John. People object to things they disagree with.
But I will tell you the difference. One is a hate filed agenda and the other is "OK good for you. " Anti ANYTHING should not be supported here. Are you OK with that? Supporting people in a positive way is better than constantly intentionally mocking the beliefs of others. So you disagree with this? I have my guess.
