Dear spookies,
It was just seven months ago that I had the idea to put a gimmick in a cigar box -- and praise, support and sales on the Café were quick to come. Thank you all so much for encouraging me to discover a creative part of myself I never knew existed. You have changed my life. Now, down to the business of art. I find my skills and efficiencies have improved to the point that I offer homemade boxes for the same $100 my early supporters paid for a cigar box. I'm proud of that early work, and have certainly received less for a c note in my 50 years of buying magic. But I realize I can offer a cigar box for $60 and still make what in my mind is a fair profit for my time and effort. I've hesitated doing so, however, because it seemed unfair to the people who got me off the ground,so to speak. And I don't want to send the message, "gee, I shoulda waited," for the next amateur who has a creative idea. So here's what I've come up with. If you bought an early $100 box, you have a $40 credit on any future $100 box, or order, from me. If you bought a smaller early box, consider it a discount of 40 percent of what you paid. If you aren't sure, pm me. And please, no double coupons or I'd be making Greg free boxes for the next six months. I hope this doesn't come off as gimmicky (pun intended) but I want to start offering some lower priced boxes without having to feel guilty about it. What can I say? I'm a box maker, not a businessman. If you like my boxes, please like my Facebook page, Marc's Magic Boxes - and Slates, which has a large if disorganized collection of my boxes in one place. Thanks you again for all your wonderful support, those of you who took a moment to praise a box as well as those of you who took a chance on a guy you never heard of. Marc And here's a pic of that first box. Thanks to the Café member who bought it in less than an hour. Click here to view attached image. |

Can you give us a clue as to the nature of the gimmick?
Better still, the effect? Regards Sy |

Sorry, these are switch boxes for the most part, suitable for cards, envelopes and similar items. Keep on posting and you can join more open discussions in the crypt. I'm also happy to answer questions by pm -- these are utility props, not anything I came up with on my own.

Beautiful work!
Glad to see your FB page and examples of the various boxes all in one site. Congrats and cheers to your continued success. |
