Hey Café,
Here's this: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/448 And now some ad copy: Your friend THINKS of a card. SHE DOESN’T WRITE IT DOWN, SHE DOESN’T TELL A SOUL. And when you spread the cards out…her card has VANISHED from the deck and REAPPEARED INSIDE YOUR POCKET. No palming, no forcing, no indexing. What does that mean? It means that after you pull you friend’s card out of your pocket, your pocket is TOTALLY EMPTY. And now some info: Years ago, John Kennedy printed up his “Mind Power” cards on an off-brand deck. Even though the cards didn’t look great or handle great, professionals still performed it because the trick is that strong. (I've heard that Derren Brown used this trick to get his first TV special.) But now, everything has changed. The cards you'll get are printed on the classic red bicycle backs, so nobody will suspect a thing. Also, yeah, I came up with an easy-to-do presentation of "Mind Power" for Penguin Customers only, and "Mind To Matter" is the result. I'm here all day to answer questions. Thanks guys. -Rick |

This looks good. How many outs (pockets) do we need?
I'm thinking having the card appear in wallet or last picture taken on phone...just some unique revelations. |

A lot of us already own the deck in question. Any chance of us getting the routine only Rick? I would pay $9.99 minimum, $14.99 maximum for your touches alone.

Also some subtleties for telling people exactly which pocket the card will appear in before they even name the card. So you tell them which pocket it will appear in, then they tell you the card, then you take it out and the pocket is empty. Really discounts the idea of multiple outs or indexes or anything like that. |

Very nice, Rick. One of those "why didn't I think of that" handlings of a great deck.

That's exactly how I've been using the Mind Power Deck! Well okay not exactly as I've been using an "influence" presentation. But the card is in my pocket.
Love this deck so much. I'd even say this is my all time favorite effect. Plus with Derren's tips you reduce the amount of **ts. My only gripe with the deck is that it doesn't spread so smoothly anymore.. Making the effect near impossible to do. I could soap the deck.. But I'm kind of lazy.. |

Wait. I am confused. You say a spectator "THINKS" of a card. So you are saying they can name ANY card?

This one looks really, really good. Question though, how does it compare to/differ from Get Sharky? I don't have either effect, but the premise and maybe even the method seem very similar. Have had Get Sharky in my shopping cart for some time now and have yet to pull the trigger on it. Maybe I'll switch it out for this one instead. Wondering if people have an opinion one way or the other, or maybe there's a subtlety I'm missing that differentiates them.

Get sharky can be examined. This can't. Get sharky would be better for in the hands performances. This would be better for tabled performances. |

I like Maddy's answer, Kristo. I mean, both are super, super strong card tricks that use gimmicked decks. Wouldn't be crazy to do both of them. As Maddy points out, totally different methods. And sometimes it's really powerful to have similar-seeming tricks with totally different methods.

Really think Penguin are missing a trick here by not offering these with a download only option. This is the second of Ricks effects (the other being his Mental Photography deck handling), that I would have bought. It's just not economical to buy these when overseas, particularly when you already have the decks anyway!

Hey Hornet,
Acar just explained to me why it's tricky to sell presentations without gimmicks, and it makes sense. The gimmick is not mine, only the presentation of it. So if we were charging for it, would that be unfair to the person who created the prop? Would we compensate them? How much? These are good questions to ask, and you could be right about us missing something with the download-only option, so we are going to look into it. Just wanted you to know why we're not making it available right now. More complex than we both realized. TopHatter: She names the card, but before she does 1) the card has vanished and 2) you tell her which pocket the card will appear in. |

Hey Rick,
Wow thanks so much for the quick response and for going to the trouble of looking into it! Great that it's being like looked at and that Penguin are making sure they do the right thing by the creators. The only thing I'd add is that surely there's lots of examples of people selling their presentations of existing props? Off the top of my head, Daryls Essentials in Magic series, Michael Ammars Cups and Balls DVDs and book. Thanks again for your response Paul |
