Was my reaction when I saw the trailer for Nametag online. Without knowing anything about the gimmick or the product the only thing that I could think of, was that this is somehow a more multi-purpose tool similar to the Wow gimmick of magic fame circa 2005. That alone is why I chose this trick sight unseen. And I’ve been quite happy with my acquisition since. What you get with nametag is a great utility prop that can allow you to incorporate magic into your sets using what looks to be an everyday object: A photo name badge. The nice thing about this name badge is that it has a friendly “Hello my name is” approach to it, but it also has space for your photo so it looks a shade more professional than the normal name badges you see at company meet-ups. So if you’re doing strolling, or table hopping magic, where you have to keep introducing yourself over and over to new groups of people then this would be a great way to explain who you are, justify your interruption, and then do something magical right off the bat serving as the perfect ice breaker. You get four gaff cards. Two have the “Hello My Name is” on one side, and the predication on the other, and the other two gaff cards look like blue (or red I’m assuming?) Bicycle playing cards on the backside with the prediction on the front. The predictions give you a wide range of play from different hand written playing cards, different ESP symbol reveals, to even different playing cards themselves serving as a transformation or transposition style effect instead of a prediction style. Setting up your gimmick will require you to write your name on the Hello My Name Is card with a marker that won’t wipe off a playing card. I recommend you follow the DVD’s advice and test out your marker first on a playing card you don’t mind ruining before applying the ink to your gaff because if it can be rubbed off with your fingers then it’ll make your gaff look trashy and not very visually appealing. After you’ve written your name you’ll need to attach a photo of yourself to the designated area using either sticky photo paper or glue stick. This gimmick is temperamental to the thickness of photo stock you use so pay attention to the DVD’s recommendation. Handling the gimmick is pretty easy. There is minimal memory work involved for seamless presentation, though the first time or two I did it I just set the gimmick up right in front of my spectator and they were not the wiser for it. If you’re already familiar with the Wow gimmick then this works similar to that. It does take a little getting used to because positioning the gimmick can feel a little fickle at first, but you get used to it quickly. This is a great prop item with a lot of presentation potential. It’s a nice utility gimmick and I simply love those. Rightfully so, with Nametag you get a nice professional looking prop that you can use to make some powerful magical moments for the spectators you just met. The magic is angle proof and it is a great opener! When I give my product scores below I am measuring them on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 Being absolute the worst score possible, and 10 being the absolute best, making a score of five average. The four points that I grade upon is Product Quality, Teaching Quality, Sound & Video Quality and Overall Quality. Product Quality: 7 The price is a little out there, but seeing what all you get I wouldn’t say it was unreasonable. Teaching Quality: 7 Good tutorial. Subtitled, non English but easy to follow. Video & Sound Quality: 7 The video could be better, but the sound was good. Overall Quality: 7 I really liked this prop! I’d recommend this to anyone who does regular strolling work, bar, street, or restaurant work. Have a product you want reviewed? Want to see if it will stand up to the Draven Seal of Approval?
