Hello,
I'm looking to freak out some friends... Has anyone got some good resources for conducting a seance? I am hoping to purchase an aged looking, gimmicked seance kit (unleash your dreams kit?) and use ouija style idemotor phenomena to provoke a reaction. A spirit bell would also be ideal, but as far as I can see from my research these are pretty costly... I have never held a seance before or ever really been to a 'real' one either but it is a topic that fascinates me, so some literature on the topic or previous experiences, advice, videos anything will be of use. Even better would be someone near me who has experience in this sort of area. Thanks in advance, this is also my first post so hopefully it is in the correct section... |

Siroh, welcome to Spooky! I recommend you check out the works of Paul Voodini, most specifically http://www.readerofminds.co.uk/paranormal_20.html

Yes. Welcome. There is a lot of great advice, knowledge and experience here, as well as great people. I am sure you will receive the help you need, and be able to offer help in return soon. Good luck!

Welcome, Siroh! David mentioned a great resource up above. One thing I might add: be careful where you purchase from. While the site is still up, UYD doesn't seem to be doing business anymore (and many, myself included, have simply given up on ever receiving items we paid for).

Try the search tool above and you will find a wealth of topics on this subject - you may have to dig a little but there are a ton of great ideas and resources mentioned over the years - try to narrow the search to the bizarre forum though to narrow it down a little.
Here is one topic I found from just a few months ago: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=14 |

Welcome, Siroh! You have come to the right place.
1) I'm looking to freak out some friends... You planning a gimmicked seance, I see. I would be amiss to not direct your attention to non- or minimally-gimmicked seances. Setting the proper mood can be very powerful. 2) Has anyone got some good resources for conducting a seance? The aforementioned resources are excellent. No one has mentioned Seance Magazine which you can get compiled and bound. It is chalk full of ideas and stories. The Seance Chamber forum has many more ideas and suggestions for resources. 3) I am hoping to purchase an aged looking, gimmicked seance kit... I would encourage to first create and develop your character. Then, make your own box with 'artefacts' to help tell a story that you write your own - one that fits your character. The BBoB might be helpful in this regard and also see 4). 4) A spirit bell would also be ideal, but as far as I can see from my research these are pretty costly... Please consult Lary Kuehn's Hidden Things for an affordable spirit bell. 5) I have never held a seance before or ever really been to a 'real' one either but it is a topic that fascinates me... As previously mentioned, Paul Voodini's works will likely be right up you alley. Here I will insert a shameless plug for, and direct you to, The Seance Chamber forum and the podcasts. Contact Brynmore14 or myself if you are interested.

And of course you should immediately start listening to the séances and spookshows podcast, starting with episode 9, which is an interview with Paul Voodini on gaffless séance work, then check out the rest.
