Hi folks,
I posted up in the workers forum, but I also wanted to check down here also. More heads are better than one, etc. What print/video resources would you recommend to someone who wishes to learn to second deal? I want to learn to second deal for magic and gambling demo routine purposes (not 'real' work), and I would like a print source and video source for the same deal technique. Ideally, I would like to know that such a technique was/is used by professional magicians (and who). One bit of info I got from the workers was that Jason England has a great series of 'foundation' downloads, and that his teaching of the second deal is based on Erdnase - so that the combo of England's downloads plus Erdnase is a strong possibility. So what print/video resources would you recommend to someone just starting out on this adventure? Thanks in advance |

TerribleWizard,
Foundations is fine for false deals, but if you're specifically interested in the second deal, then you should look inito the second deal learning process that I didn't include on Foundations. I think I've released it on The Unreal Work 2 and it's also on my Penguin lecture download. That learning process is what you're looking for. Jason

Card Control, Effective Card Magic or Expert Card Technique for the technique. Gambling Protection Series to see the ideal rhythm, nonchalance and expertise needed for a great second deal. It will also make you feel like your life is pointless.

Thanks Jason - I just saw your response on the workers thread too.
So to be clear, are you recommending your foundations teaching PLUS your lecture/unreal work 2, or just the lecture/unreal work on its own? |

Terrible,
I hesitate to recommend any of my own products. You can search dozens and dozens of similar "I want to learn move XYZ" threads here on the Café and I almost never step in to promote my own products - I like others to do that for me if they believe them worthy. However, since you asked I'll tell you that in your specific case, I think you'll be best served by both Foundations Vol 1 (or just the second dealing 1-on-1 that you're interested in, strike or push-off that are available separately from Theory11) and the second deal learning system that I put on Unreal Work 2. One is the raw technique explained as well as I could, and the other is a pedagogical approach that I came up with a few years ago but wasn't ready to release just yet. Hope this helps. Jason PS: I've also posted a similar message in the Workers section. It contains some advice that isn't repeated here, so be sure to check it out.

Just an update - I read the entries in ECT and Erdnase, and downloaded Jason's teaching on the push off. I've been making my thumb sore with practice (but loving it). I will try and get Unreal Work 2 at some point in the future.
Thanks again! And I guess the next update will be in about a decade's time, lol |

TW,
If it is the push off in particular, I would highly recommend grabbing a copy of Richard Turner's 'The Cheat' to watch and analyse what he is doing with his deal as it has to be in the top 3 push off deals around (I might say even higher than 3!) You'll learn a lot about all the false deals but I must warn you this doesn't teach the deals, so it would be a resource for a bit further down the road. |

Also I should add I second all of Jason's material on this subject, I always seem to be going back to those resources and always find little bits of treasure.

No worries Bobby, there's a number of great gambling style performers on my radar for when I've got more under my belt (Turner being one, along with many others). But, one step ...er, deal, ... at a time.

Hey Terrible Wizard,
Funny that you're starting up with the second deal, as I am as well. I'm doing the strike second deal, so got the ECT, Effective Card Magic, and Jason's Strike Deal on Theory 11. What got me into it was reading Effective Card Magic. What a great book with great effects. And a nice break down of the strike second deal. A long road ahead! GreenKnight |

Here is how I learned the second deal when I was 15 years old. Although the literature was sparce at that time, and there were no videos on the subject, I had ECT, Erdnase, and Effective Card Magic.
I found the double push off unworkable from the description given in ECT but the strike was nicely described and workable except the very small brief they stressed was unnecessary. The best book for me was Effective Card Magic because it was a workable method and the description put forth showed how to learn it. Of course my second deal evolved over time but that book was very beneficial initially for me. Of course, the biggest jump for me was seeing it done under fire back in the day when I moved to Vegas, but that is another story. |

Thanks for the information cagliostro. . I don't own that book, so I might have to hunt it down.
