Latest on the Vegas performers. New rules seem similar to Mallory square lottery system, except no charge for the permit. I personally believe in no regulation on free speech. Others thoughts on the new ordinances? |

Its like Miami, or Santa Monica or so many other cities limiting areas throughout the states.

The new ordinance was based on Santa Monica. As a worker of Fremont, I'm less than enthused but it might have some benefits. In the end performers are going to have to make some adjustments but it will end many of the violent outbreaks that have occoured in fighting for spots.

Look if the spots are good spots then its fine....it can't be a free for all....moving every 2 hours is not a big deal...its just inconvenient.....if the spots are workable spots its fine...and you can always go onto the strip....allthough you might need to up your game as the strip is truly street performing and freemont street is easy peasy

What I run into on FSE lately is guys getting more & more territorial. I almost clashed the other night and I usually do everything possible to avoid it. There's a mentality of busker landing there now that is more violent and determined. I've been here about 4 years and it's happening more. Anyway...
And Koz, sorry. I disagree on the easy peasy thing. I think the street is where you stand, learning that particular street has not come easy.

The problem with the rules pertaining to moving every two hours, its like Santa Monica where on a Saturday you will see all the performers camping out before the start of the regulated hours. They also all know each other so when its time to switch, it is all pre-planned traded spots. New performers have a bad time moving into the rotation. Regulation also started a ton of fights down in Venice that made them do away with the lottery and just outline four performance pitches for large shows.
Regardless, if you go to places where there are so many performers, you will end up either regulated or squashed by a breakdance/tumbler group. Find different pitches in weird places. Quote: On Sep 27, 2015, Kozmo wrote: |

That would actually be better than what is going to happen Tomee. Each day performers who want to work will be entered into a computer lottery that will randomly spit out times and spots for each performer.

I WAS going to make a trip to Circus Circus while the wife was at dialysis, but had to make a side trip to Wal Mart to get some shoes that didn't hurt. I AM planning another trip, next summer or the summer after depending on 401k money. (I have no intention of waiting til I retire to get the money, I'll just pay the taxes on it.)

I perform at the fountain in front of Cesar's across from the Flaming on Las Vegas Blvd, let me know if you can make it. I perform off and on as I'm a hobbyist getting the feel for things

I am actually more excited for the potential to clean up some of the grimey homeless alcoholics/drug addicts that go out there in a g-string to make cash for their next score. It's about the quality of entertainer. Hell it's about being an entertainer in the first place. Let's start with that. Enough of the garbage that is littering the streets.

Can anyone tell me how this is working out. Also hello Sean Scott. I went to Vegas in 2011 and got to see you perform your routine. You used a bill of mine for your bill in lemon trick and did a watch steal with sponges. I also got to see you floating phone effect and got a business card. Just wondering if this was when you first started

More and more I'm feeling each street (town) has it's own situation. Time, place & manner can be regulated, but to what degree is the issue. Vegas needs tourism for example, specifically the right kind of tourist. If it is not regulated somewhat then the city, businesses, residents, etc., will feel the impact. The busking scene will die with that. Buskers would not be there if $ was scarce. My personal observation with Fremont Street right now is a better street has now appeared. One that has a future.

It is actually better for the performers now that there is some regulation... at least financially speaking. There were just a tremendous volume of characters, performers, etc. and it was crazy. Now, there is a reasonable amount of performers and most make more money than before. On Freemont St. you NEED amplification or you will never get noticed... it's loud and crazy there... but there is also money. I still choose for now to be mainly on the Strip... but Freemont St. is a good option for many performers.
