I am looking to switch a photograph that is maybe 2"x3". I have thought about doing a shuttle pass, Sankey's paperclipped, breast pocket switch, and a Switch a roo. I don't really care for himber wallets as there really isn't a motivation to place the photo back inside a wallet. If you have any ideas that would work for table hopping please post below or PM me if it borders on exposure. Thanks.

I should have specified that I need a switch where they have no idea a second photo is in play. Thanks.

I'm not sure if your handling would support this or if your handling could be changed to make it work but have you ever seen T.A. Waters swopper. In the instructions he actually gives ideas with photos and photo post cards. Just a thought.

How about the Switcharoo Device for a non sleight method or, for sleights, a top palm as you get a marker.
i used to switch a photo of a normal rabbit into a double-headed rabbit using the Out To Lunch principal. Whatever works

...a small Himber wallet, perhaps?

...oops...didn't read your entire post. Time for a second cup of coffee.

Second cup of coffee almost finished. For the record, I still think a Himber wallet would make sense. The motivation for keeping a photo in a wallet is simply because people keep photos(at least they used to before cell phones became the norm for sharing photos with others)in their wallets. To remove it from your wallet only to put it back would not seem out of the ordinary. Handing over the wallet with the photo inside may be considered awkward as a normal rule of etiquette, but removing it and allowing a spectator to examine it would not seem so out of the ordinary that you would need to seek a motivational explanation as to why you are putting it back because that's where it belongs.

Is it a completely different picture or could you use the Out to Lunch principle?

Yes, it is a similar photo. And yes, I have thought about trying the Out to Lunch principle. Thanks.

Out to Lunch would mean you are starting with a stack of photos.
If you are starting with a stack of photos you could just use a double lift. You could even start with a double faced photo to make the switch extra clean. |

What's the effect? Hard to suggest a switch without knowing more.
Is there a table around? Will you have other props in your hand? Is the photo switch so you can mutilate/burn/tear up a bogus photo to 'bring back' the original later? Does the switch need to be visual? Will you be wearing a jacket with pockets? If you provide some more context you have a better shot at getting a suggestion that is suited to your effect. Thanks! I look forward to hearing more. |

Jconz,
I am looking to put together a handling for Love & War - http://www.jamiedaws.co.uk/jamiedaws/loveandwar.html I really like the effect but felt the handling taught could be stronger. Yes, I will have a table as I am a restaurant worker. I always wear a jacket when I perform. Having other props in my hands will depend on which method I decide to go with. The switch does not need to be visual. Hope that helps.

What about a double ended envelope? Marc Oberon sells them.

After reading the description of the effect in the link you provided, I can see why you would want to perform this effect; a wonderful story with a delightful twist. In my mind the switch method needs to be as clean as possible.
Switch-aroo would be clean, but I think an in the hands switch would be even stronger. Have you considered two photos "tacked" together from the start? Similar to many T&R card gaffs? |

Take a look at Tony Miller's DiLeather, very thin, well made and innocent looking. Fried a couple of magician friends of mine with an effect using Dileather for a switch needed in the routine, they never suspected any switch, it's so innocent looking !

There was an effect taught on volume 3 of the Richard Sanders Show dvd set called Trick Photography that used a simple switch of a photo using a small packet trick holder that might suit your needs.

Yes Warren that is basically what I ended up doing. Using a packet trick wallet and black art principle with a divider to hide the switched in photo. Similar to the way the wallet in Killer Elite Pro is gimmicked. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Not sure about that specific effect, but an easily modified photo frame can work
Show the frame with the photo inside. Turn downward to extract the photo that is now face down. Turn the frame back up and casually display the face with the photo half extracted and the colored backing can be seen. Continue pulling out the photo in full view with fingers cover the switched photo if necessary, leaving only the colored backing Inference will support that the one pulled out is the one originally seen. If you like but can't figure out how to manage the switch, PM me. Think double color change with playing cards. hmmm. This could be a marketable item
