The LI Mystics
presents JON ARMSTRONG LECTURE Sept 21 2015 8PM $10 lecture fee non-members at the Community United Methodist Church, 100 Park Blvd, Massapequa, NY DID YOU SEE HIM DO THE "TINY PLUNGER" ON PENN & TELLER'S "FOOL US?" SEE HIM LIVE AT DENNY & LEE'S This will not be just another trick lecture or a dealer show. Jon will not only teach you some great, original card magic, he will teach you some sleights and techniques that you may have thought were out of your reach. One of the things that makes Jon such an in demand performer, is the way he has developed and integrated his character into his magic. It's this synthesis of performance; effect and character that can make 'tricks' become magic. In addition to learning his original card ideas, he will also cover topics such as learning, performance and character. These ideas are useable whether you are a full time pro or just do a few tricks for family and friends.http://youtu.be/pCr05E7ai3Q This recent Magic Castle award nominated lecture with cover techniques with cards but that can be used to enhance all our magic. This will be illustrated in the following effects: The Blank Monte (A three card monte routine that takes the sting out of magician is always right scenario and giving it a truly magical climax by personalizing it), http://youtu.be/vWe8FGyxg1E Reflexed (The opening of Jon’s stage act at the Magic Castle for years) Orbs of Power (Follow the Leader in a way laymen will follow and love) I Scream (A business card routine big in effect and in return on clients) Out Of This Blah Blah Blah (A more commercial and entertaining Out Of This World with no sleight of hand) The Tiny Plunger (Making card tricks into card magic, using new moves and thinking about the standard ones differently) And many more, right out of Jon’s current award winning close up act. Some of the following testimonials give you an idea of the powerful miracles from his lecture! “There’s an old saying: ‘If a man fools me once, shame on him. If he fools me twice, it’s probably Jon Armstrong.’ At least that’s my version.” – Ian Rowland, Magic Circular "I Scream You Scream (possibly the best ever trick for getting your business card into a spectator's hand - and with a subtle way of making them contact you afterwards) will make you money!!" – Martin Key, Abra "A fun evening...flawless technique" – Bob Yelland, Maimi FL "Dropping an email to say I found your lecture brilliant – it was informative, interesting and entertaining. In particular, I enjoyed learning the nuances of certain moves such as your second-deal and gin double." – Stephen Dobbs, Manchester "Overall, Jon very much inspired with the sense that it is possible to make a living with magic, and still have loads of fun. Oh, and he also showed us a trick. One of the best tricks I have ever seen. With a prop and materials I own, yet it totally fooled me. What was it? Well, you had to be there, really." – Ian ‘Mindwriter’ Carpenter, UK Magic Week “Jon certainly kicked butt at Motor City. His performances and lecture were really great. I believe he's doing one more lecture, this time in Grand Rapids MI. After that he's off to Malaysia to return to his life as a professional magician. If you're in the area, don't miss John's last lecture in Grand Rapids. This may be the last chance you have to see him for quite awhile. Also, he's making a tremendous deal on his notes and other items. His work with the Frixion pen alone is worth the price of admission. This is one of many that I'll be using.” – Mike Powers, Linking Ring For more information, visit Jon’s website at: www.cardjon.com Jon Armstrong Bio Jon Armstrong has performed for some of the most prestigious audiences in over 30 countries worldwide. Growing up in Orlando, Florida, Jon became fascinated by the magic he saw in the theme parks around him and dreamed of having his own show. This dream came true when Disney asked him to bring his act to Epcot and he became the resident magician at Walt Disney World. He was only 20. After spending 5 years doing his show at Disney World, Vegas called and Jon answered, becoming a recurring headliner at Caesar's Magical Empire. It was between these runs in Vegas that Jon started doing his tours all over the world as both a performer and lecturer, teaching others how to add humor and entertainment to their magic. Also he worked on many films and television shows such as “The Mentalist” and “Spiderman 3” as a magic consultant and designer. Walt Disney Imagineering, ITEC Entertainment and Landmark have come to rely on Jon to help bring magic to all areas of theme park and theatrical design. He now lives in Los Angeles and is a frequent performer at the world famous Magic Castle. His TV appearances as a talk show guest, featured performer or actor, include shows like "Magic Castle After Dark" on A&E, USA's "Ready For The Weekend", Fox's "Masters of Illusion.", NBC’s Today Show and ABC's "Bachelorette" He has been featured in trade publications like Magic, The Linking Ring, MUM and other magic journals worldwide. Stories have been done on him in The New York Times, LA Magazine and Harpers just to name a few. In December 2004 Jon appeared on the cover of Genii Magazine in a issue dedicated to his magic. In April 2007 Jon Armstrong was named Close up Magician of the Year by The Academy of Magical Arts. He has been nominated seven times total as of 2012. With 2010 as the first year he has been nominated for Lecturer of the Year by the AMA.
