Good evening friends,
this is the first time I post something in this section, I think. My name is Axel, I am 39 years old and a semi-professional mentalist living in Berlin, Germany. So far I spent most of the time in the penny-section of the Café. A few days ago I posted a video there that I recently shot. And a few people suggested that I should post the link down here as well because they thought my presentation had a touch of Bizarre to it. To be honest, I don't know much about Bizarre presentations and am interested to understand what components would make this or any presentation a bizarre one. Also I hope you enjoy the video and would appreciate any kind of feedback. The video has English subtitles (which you need to activate in the player) and you can watch it either on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/123257274398249......f_t=like or on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TktryNKB-M Have a wonderful evening, Axel |

I also enjoyed this very much.
I am not sure if we should worry too much about the categorization as bizarre or mentalism. The story was entertaining, the effects made sense in context, it all had a point to it, begining-middle-end, a mystery as to where it was going, or how it would end. I especially liked the respectful and benevolent treatment of your participant--all the more important, I think, as after all, stealing someone's willpower can be pretty creepy and unsettling (perhaps that is the reason some called it bizarre-?). I liked your balance, and the resolutions you gave. Thank you, I learned from this. |

This was wonderful to watch, Axel. Thank you for sharing it.
Sometimes I think that label of "bizarre presentation" can be simply applied to performances that are rooted in story and human emotion, where atmosphere is encouraged to develop around the participants, and that the performer is engaged in a tale much larger than themselves. What makes this Bizarre? Maybe it strives to capture some of the wonder and truth that exist in our stories and legends, and for that it becomes an experience that is trimmed with shadows and supernatural strengths? I don't know. I do know that I found this to be a very moving performance as well. It was beautifully shot and scored with music that opened up the imagination. I agree with Balaram that you have respect for your participant and a lovely connection. The entire experience was a strange journey crafted to return her to a place that honored the power of her own love. Marvelous. Please continue your work without any real concern for category. It’s very good. Best, Perkins

Fantastic! Would love to learn it. What makes bizarre? Well, blood, guts, body organs, wretched smell, chemicals.... no wait, I got that confused with embalming, sorry.

Impressive storytelling and emotional engagement, your tone of voice and relaxed demeanor and pacing were appropriately executed. She was the perfect sitter. The effect resonated off of her and she glowed.
The filming, editing and color was top notch. This is how all performances should be captured. Potentially, one of the the differences between “bizarre” (yuck I don’t like that term) and what you may be used to, we may turn down the lights way down to enhance the atmosphere? Blowing out the candle created the perfect beat to end on. It allowed for reflection (also with the object from a friend) and finality (could you imagine if the lights were turned down you may have had tears of joy!). This routine is a profound experience. You understand the components for being a brother of the bizarre. Congratulations on the crossover that was beautiful.

Wowow So beautiful!
The production quality was very very good, and the colors and tone were very appropriate. I also really love how tight the presentation is and how necessary every detail and "challenge" seemed. Bravo!

Thank you all very much!
Since I had the story in my mind for a few years now and finally got a chance to do it, obviously it makes me really happy that it finds this kind of resonance. The story and the book really mean a lot to me. Probably that makes it authentic. A lot of thinking went into how to present and film this. One of my biggest fears was to somehow make this too voyeuristic. As Balaram said: Quote:
" (...) after all, stealing someone's willpower can be pretty creepy and Especially if a bald, bearded man does it to a young woman. So everything from the location, the music, the scripting to the clothes I wear is used to avoid that. I am glad that seems to have worked out. Thank you all, Axel |

Wow. That was great Axel!
An evocative narrative. I think, perhaps, that a few elements may have resonated with the bizarre community. You presented the magic as if it were real, not as light entertainment, or a distraction. It wasn't about you as the center of attention, it was about the story and the participant. Finally it dealt with the big themes of life; love, will, and human nature. These are themes much bizarre magic deals with. Inspiring! |

Awesome! Even the language didn't disturb that much!
